Check Out Addison Simmons of The Beens’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Addison Simmons of The Beens.

Hi Addison, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Beens (pronounced like the food) has been such an amazing journey. Getting to play music with my best friends over the last 2 years has been a blessing. The group has changed so much in some ways but none in others. We have Addison Simmons on rhythm guitar and vocals, Rocky Carnell on rhythm/lead guitar, Charlie Johnson on lead guitar, Brady Gouthro on bass, and we have Sawyer Dodd’s and Jack Gardner as our rotating drummers.

The gang started in early 2019 at an open mic night at our friend’s house when they needed some more people to play; so, me and Rocky decided to write our first song. Then, Jack came over to go over it and jam. BOOM The Beens are born. Brady followed in next and really filled that pocket in the rhythm section. After Brady, our stallion Charlie arrived, and boy oh boy did things escalate. When he joined it added a whole other level to the music. A whole other energy arrived and it’s boosted us to new heights. Sawyer has been with us for a few months now to give us a hand when we need and we can’t thank him enough for joining this group. He’s truly became one of the guys in the best ways. He bring a whole other energy to the stage and it’s a dang party when he’s with us.

The music keeps pouring out of us like fine wine and I can’t to wait to show Nashville what this band can do.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a bumpy road with lots of smooth parts. The music industry is always a grind and it never stops. It’s hard to be an up-and-coming folk-rock band in a city of country music. On the bright side, the city is a melting pot of a cultures and music styles. As long as I have my guys on my side, the possibilities are endless and the struggles don’t feel as bad.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I think what sets us apart from everyone else in Nashville is how different our style is than most people here. Everyone tends to think that you can only stick to one genre. We think if you enjoy playing other genres and mixing them together, why not do it? Our EP that we’re currently working on goes all over the place genre-wise and that sets us apart from everyone. Why stick to just folk-rock when you can include, psych-rock, indie, rock, and alternative in there. The thing I’m most proud of with this group is that no one is a quitter. Everyone strives for greatness and perfection and it just pushes each one of us to get better as musicians and people.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Beens, Beens, Beens. They’re good for your heart
