Today we’d like to introduce you to Akilah Skukura.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up, I always had an undying love for fashion. As a teen, I began styling family and friends as a way to express myself and share my passion with the people around me. I often found myself picking out pieces here and there for loved ones based on their personality and style. It started as something I would do for fun but eventually, I realized that I could pursue it as a career. I later received my Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Marketing & Management, and I have been styling ever since.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Early on, I struggled with a lack of confidence. Like most people, it took time to realize everything I needed to succeed was already inside of me. I started out on a journey of self-love and self-discovery aiming to find who I was at my core. This journey changed the way I thought about myself and showed me that before I could truly achieve anything, I must first whole hearty believe that I could. I made myself a promise that as long as I never give up on myself, I could figure out how to do anything, and over time my confidence started to grow.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Glamoore is a Nashville-based Styling firm dedicated to the preservation of beauty and life. Here at Glamoore, we believe when you look good, you feel good; and this feeling of self-worth motivates happier healthier living.
Glamoore was founded on a simple principle- All people deserve the freedom and resources necessary to be, and to love, the person they truly are. We want our clients to feel seen, heard, and empowered to do whatever it is that they truly want to do.
Our mission is to build a platform that provides the common community the tools necessary to create and preserve a healthy, fulfilled life.
The clothing you wear sends a message about your personality; it is a way to show others who you are and what you are all about. A carefully selected wardrobe can speak volumes before you even say a word. Glamoore was created to streamline your style and reflect your own unique individuality.
As the founder of Glamoore, I think I am most proud of the fact that we can create an environment that feels safe enough for our clients to truly be themselves.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Patience is a virtue. You can’t rush something that you want to last forever. There’s no such thing as an overnight success. I’ve learned to be grateful for where I am while still striving to go further. Looking back, there are a few experiences I wish I could have experienced a little deeper, but I was in a rush. So I’ve learned to slow down, and sometimes I even stop and smell the roses.
