Check Out Alex Walls’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Walls.

Hi Alex, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Alex Walls, and I am a guitar player based in Nashville, TN. I was originally born in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, Canada, moved to Nashville 5 years ago at the age of 22 to pursue a career in music. I can confidently say that moving here was the best decision I have ever made. I first moved here on a work visa without knowing a single person. In a short amount of time, I have turned music into a full-time career playing upwards of 5 nights a week, doing session work, and touring nationally and internationally. I started taking the city bus to different blues jams every night of the week, trying to network and meet as many people as possible, and then slowly enough, work started coming. I started playing gigs regularly on lower Broadway, and in 2019, I was asked to take part in a small tour of Europe which was very exciting. In 2021 I was hired to play lead guitar for Cory Marks for a summer tour supporting Halestorm through the US. We also played Rocklahoma on that tour which was quite a milestone for me. Later this year, starting November 9th, we are going on a 22-city arena tour across the US with Five Finger Death Punch and Brantley Gilbert. I also play lead guitar in “Cody Parks and the Dirty South” we have a residency in town once a month at Live Oak and travel on the weekends. We just recently played Monsters on the Mountain in Gatlinburg, TN. To be on the same bill as some of my heroes was pretty amazing! Even though I feel I am just getting started, I am very proud of what I have accomplished in Nashville in a short time. It just shows with enough hard work. You can accomplish the things you want!

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
2020 was a rough year for everyone in the music industry, but since then, I have had the busiest time in my career, so I am glad I stuck it out! This business has many ups and downs, and you have to learn to take them as they come. When you are just starting, everything seems to take a long time, but looking back on it now, I would say it has been a gradual incline since I first moved here.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am definitely known as a rock guitar player, but I have played many different styles of music since moving here, and it’s always fun to add what you do to that stuff. I primarily work as a side guy, which means I get hired to play guitar for various artists and perform the songs as closely as possible to the record in a live situation. I also get to do session work and play on other people’s songs which is always fun to be able to add your own style and sound to something. In addition, I play 5 nights a week on lower Broadway when I’m in town. I would like to think what sets me apart from others is that I’ve always stuck to what I believed in music-wise and never tried to fit a certain mold or formula to fit in, and I am very proud I have been able to make a career out of that.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would say that if anyone like me wants to pursue a career in music but might be hesitant, I would encourage them to go for it! This industry can be very rewarding, and you never know what might happen until you try! But you need to be all in 100 percent!
