Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Green & Thomas Marra. They and their team share their story with us below:
Alexa Green and Tommy Marra met almost twenty years ago as friends in high school. They didn’t really know each other back then but both grew up passionate about music. Fast forward to May of 2022 when they reconnected at a mutual friend’s Memorial Day BBQ. Colleen, Tom’s wife who did theatre with Alexa in high school, suggested Alexa and Tom should make some music together in their home studio and since June of last year, Lex & Tom have written over 18 songs together, released three debut singles, and performed their debut set at Urban Country Jam, New York City’s premiere country music festival at The Cutting Room last December.
Lex & Tom was born out of a shared passion for singing and songwriting. A country/rock/pop duo from Long Island, New York, they are a little bit of purity and a little bit of grit. They come from two separate sides of the music industry; Alexa, a Broadway star and voice teacher, and Tom a previous US Marshal with a knack for metal and EDM, Lex & Tom was formed, joining forces in the summer of 2022 and have exploded onto the scene with big voices and an even bigger heart. Their sophisticated songwriting and top-notch production value are unmatched and have undeniably won the admiration of music lovers far and wide.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of our biggest obstacles and challenges have been overcoming hardships and rejection both as artists and individuals.
Life throws you curve balls, from love and loss to career setbacks. Personally, we have each come extremely far in our journey and have connected here and now to share our stories. Our individual stories have come together in the most beautiful way and we truly feel like we finally have something to say in our songs and through our music. Also, we have both struggled to find our place as artists in a highly competitive field. The music industry has evolved and changed through the years and it is our job to grow and change with the times.
As ironic as it seems, social media often makes it challenging to connect, and “making it” as a musician can mean so many different things. Often artists are judged by how many followers they have or how many streams on Spotify they can garner, but for us it has always been about the music. We want to make REALLY great music, simple and beautiful melodies with intricate and heartfelt harmonies, and stories that anyone can relate to. We want to reach the masses but stay true to ourselves. We are new, we’ve only been together for less than a year, but an overnight success takes thirty years, right? We bring our previous experiences, both the highs and lows into our songs and we hope you love them.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We write music and lyrics, we create melodies and harmonies. We currently play all our own instruments, build tracks, and produce our mixes. We create content, book shows, rehearse and release music. Our first 3 singles are: MISS YOU BY MIDNIGHT, ANTHEM, and THE WAY YOU MOVE (out 1/27/23).
Alexa was previously seen in the Los Angeles company of the hit Broadway musical WICKED as Glinda and has a Master’s degree in Music Education/Vocal Pedagogy from Columbia University, Teachers College. She currently runs her own vocal studio, Alexa Green VOICE both in NYC & online working with adult professional voice users from Broadway stars to touring recording artists and musicians.
Tom is a professional songwriter and producer who works with artists to produce and record their own music from his state-of-the-art studio Cosmic Titan Studio LLC in Long Island, NY. He currently is highly in demand and one of the top verified artists writing for Songfinch and Songlorious.
