Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Taylor.
Hi Alexis, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I grew up in Canada in a very musical family. So, part of me knew I always wanted to become a musician and sing, but I was never sure what that would look like, or how to make a career out of it. It wasn’t until college that I started making frequent trips to Nashville, and decided that I wanted to move there. I just remember falling in love with the city – the people, the music, and everything in between.
That’s when I really started to work on developing my guitar skills, songwriting skills, and vocal technique. Not knowing anyone upon moving to town made it somewhat difficult to try to fit in and find my way, but it gave me many opportunities to learn a lot along the way. It wasn’t until 2018 that I released my very first single, Blame The Whiskey. Early on, I mainly decided to release single songs, even though I had more than enough material for an album. I wanted to focus on building my audience, my fanbase, and truly putting out some of what I thought were my best songs.
During that time, I was also able to perform a lot of live shows and open for artists such as Marshall Tucker Band, Love and Theft, and Meghan Patrick. I also received numerous nominations and awards such as “Female Vocalist of The Year” at the 2018 Tennessee Music Awards and “Modern Country Vocalist of The Year” at the 2020 and 2021 Josie Music Awards. It was then that I decided I wanted to release a five-song album, and truly give my listeners a taste at just what I had been working on over the years.
So in July of 2021, I released my first EP album “Ain’t No Quittin’ You.” One of the first songs pushed to radio from the album, “Getaway,” ended up reaching #15 on the Sirius XM CBC Country Charts in Canada! With 2022 coming up soon, I am planning on getting back in the studio and recording more music that I plan to release in the new year. I have some pretty cool songs that I have been working on lately, and I really can’t wait for everyone to hear them!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think there have definitely been some struggles in my career along the way. There have been people that have not been very kind, shows where my PA system didn’t work, radio interviews I accidentally slept through, friends I made that weren’t really my friends at all, and situations that I would love to go back and do over if given the chance.
But truthfully, I believe God has a plan for my life and that all of the things that have happened to me along the way have not only made me stronger but allowed me to grow. I think if everything was going smoothly, and I didn’t have any obstacles to face, then I wouldn’t have learned to overcome them and how to better myself through the process.
Everyone goes through hardships, but it’s how we chose to deal with them that matters most.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I absolutely love songwriting. Don’t get me wrong, I love performing and singing too. But songwriting is my absolute favorite. I remember as a kid, I would keep a journal and would write all the time. Sometimes, I would write poetry, sometimes, I would write stories, sometimes I would just write about my day – but I was always writing.
It’s something that I’m passionate about and I feel like the ability to put those words on paper and put music to them is even more special. Not only does songwriting allow me to express myself but it allows me to connect with other people as well. Songwriting has a way of taking the experiences that I have been through and makes them relatable to other people in a way that nothing else can.
I think that is what I’m most proud of, being able to reach people with my songs and letting them know that they aren’t alone – that they aren’t going through what they’re going through by themselves and that it’s going to be okay. That’s the best gift I could ever give someone!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I love working with others through FaceTime, and Zoom when it comes to songwriting. I’m always open to writing with new people and I find that that’s the best way to do it! As for supporting me, you can find me on just about every social media platform there is, along with all the music platforms. So, whether you listen to music on Spotify, Apple, or Amazon music, or have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok, you can find me there and follow me!
