Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Taylor
Hi Alexis, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Music has always been a huge part of my life. Both of my parents were, and still are, involved in the music industry, so I grew up being surrounded by it. I wrote my first song when I was 12 years old, and I haven’t been able to stop since! What started as a fun thing to do quickly became my passion and purpose.
During college, I took a trip to Nashville with one of my best friends, and everything about Music City made it clear – that was exactly where I needed to be. So, I packed my bags and made the move, determined to chase my dreams and make a career doing what I love. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of touring internationally through the United States, Scandinavia, parts of Mexico, and Canada, sharing my music with anyone who will listen!
The road hasn’t always been easy, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Through the ups and downs, I know that deep down, music is my calling and what I was made to do. Sometimes it’s still crazy to me that I get to wake up every day and do music for a living! I’m the luckiest girl in the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all, but I don’t think it’s supposed to be. Over the years, and especially lately, I have come to learn that any journey worth taking comes with its fair share of challenges, and mine has been no different.
One of the biggest struggles for me has been navigating the uncertainty that comes with pursuing a career in music. There is no set path, and there is no guaranteed formula for success, though many times I wish there was. You really have to just put in the work, keep showing up, and trust that the right opportunities will come at the right time. That kind of unpredictability can be super tough, especially in an industry where you hear “no” more times than you can count. But I’ve learned that every setback is just part of the process, and resilience is what separates those who keep going from those who give up.
Another struggle has been staying true to my artistry while balancing the pressures of the industry. It can be tempting to chase trends or fit into a mold, but I’ve always believed that the most impactful music comes from a place of authenticity. I never want to release something that doesn’t feel real to me, or put a song out that doesn’t mean something to me. Sometimes, this means taking the longer road or carving out my own path. But in the end, it’s always been worth it.
Despite the challenges, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. Every struggle has taught me something—whether it’s patience, persistence, or the importance of trusting my instincts. And at the end of the day, the highs make all the lows worth it. There’s no better feeling than knowing a song you wrote has touched someone’s life, and that’s what keeps me going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Usually, I focus on singing and songwriting! And if you’ve heard my music, you already know—I write more sad songs than not. Storytelling has always been at the heart of what I do, and I naturally gravitate toward the slow, emotional songs that make you feel something. There’s something powerful about taking personal experiences, whether they’re mine or inspired by someone else, and turning them into music that connects with people in a real way. Those raw, vulnerable moments are my favorite to write about because they’re the ones that stay with you long after the song ends.
What sets me apart is my commitment to authenticity. I don’t write just to fit a trend or check a box—I write because it’s how I process life, and I want my music to be something people can truly relate to. Some of the songs I’m most proud of are the ones that listeners tell me helped them through something—because at the end of the day, that’s why I do this. I want my music to be more than just words and melodies; I want it to tell a story, to mean something, and to remind people they’re not alone. Whether it’s heartbreak, loss, or just the complicated emotions that come with life, I believe the best songs are the ones that speak to those experiences, and that’s what I aim to create every time I write.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve always believed that growth doesn’t happen when you’re in your comfort zone. I also believe that if you want something bad enough, you have to be willing to take risks. One of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken was moving to Nashville without knowing a single person. It was terrifying, but at the same time, I knew in my heart it was what I needed to do.
I left behind everything that was familiar to me: my family, my friends, the life I had known…. It wasn’t easy, but I also knew that if I wanted to pursue music seriously, I couldn’t do it halfway. Nashville was where I needed to be, even if it meant starting from scratch. I had no guarantees, no clear path, and no idea how things would unfold, but I trusted God and left behind everything I had ever known. I worked hard, stayed persistent, and put my faith in the fact that I was headed exactly where I was meant to be.
Looking back, taking that leap was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It forced me to grow, to figure things out on my own, and to put myself out there in ways I never had before. It taught me that risk is necessary when it comes to going after what you want, and that even when things feel uncertain, the best opportunities often come from simply believing in yourself enough to try. Whether in music or life, I’d rather take a chance and fail than look back and wonder what if?
