Check Out Alexis DeNay’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis DeNay.

Hi Alexis, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Memphis,TN. Since I can remember I’ve had a passion for music and medicine. Throughout adolescence, I always separated my love for the two by focusing my efforts towards obtaining my bachelors degree in natural science and neuroscience from Christian Brothers University and my masters of health sciences from Meharry Medical College.

Once moving to Nashville I realized I couldn’t escape the part of me that enjoys music from songwriting to singing to performing at local festivals. With the support of my friends & family, I continue to work towards gaining my doctorate of medicine while becoming your favorite songstress.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. From unplanned gap years to retaking entrance exams becoming a doctor has had its own special set of trials. I believe the endurance required to have a rewarding career in medicine is incomparable but necessary. I am excited to see how my experiences contribute to my career as a doctor & as a singer.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Being in the medical sphere and the music sphere can be very interesting because I am essentially intertwining aspects of the left and right brain hemisphere(s). I’m known for having a Hannah Montana vibe, you know? Medicine during the day, Music at night. The Best of Both Worlds.

I’m most proud of not only my academic accolades, but for giving myself the permission to be multifaceted. Just how God created me.

How do you define success?
I define success as being in tune with God’s will for your life. Success cannot be defined by material things, but it can be defined by the way you carry yourself and how you allow God’s light to shine within you.
