Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali B.
Hi Ali , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I live in Laurel, Mississippi, home of HGTV’s Hometown show. I grew up doing community theater here. Fun Fact- my dad sold Ben Napier Erin’s engagement ring. So my dad jokes that he has made jewelry that has gone to The CMA’s, now I just have to get there. I started singing solos in competitions when I was 11. I was going anywhere I could singing Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball and won Mississippi Junior 4H Idol and met some American Idol judges there but I was too young to do that competition, so they advised my mom to make me a social media page for my music. I always came off stage asking my mom where I could sing next. I wanted to be a pop singer at that time. My favorite artists to cover were Miley Cyrus, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Adel and Sia. I went to The Model & Talent Expo in Dallas, Texas, sang Wrecking Ball and won 1st Place Child Singer there against kids from all over the country. I met a producer with OnKey Entertainment from California that wanted to produce some songs for me and we started writing together over zoom. I knew I wanted my first song to be about how I felt when I found out that a longtime friend was bullying me and talking about me behind my back and when I found out, there was nothing I could do except cry my makeup off, that’s where Makeup came from. I wanted a song that other people could relate to when they felt that kind of pain. I went to Los Angeles to record it with my producer in the spring of 2025. It was my first time on an airplane and my first visit to California. I fell in love with California but I also missed Mississippi, that’s what Mississippi Malibu is about. I got back and was even more on fire for music. I started playing piano, then guitar. Things got put on hold before my first single came out because I had always had trouble breathing through my nose. Before I would sing, I would have to do nose sprays and all kinds of things before I went out on stage to be able to sing and belt like I did. It had gotten worse to where I couldn’t breathe through my nose at all. I had some tests and scans ran and found that my adenoids were extremely and abnormally large, and they were now completely blocking the back of my nose. So I was devastated to find out that instead of my first single coming out in the summer of 2025, I had my first ever surgery and could not sing at all. But after I recovered from that, my producer and I wanted to re-record my songs because I had so much more power in my voice than I had before the surgery. So we redid my first single and released it in the fall of 2025. Right after my first single came out, my family got hired to be in Lainey Wilson’s music video for Peace, Love & Cowboys (Holiday Edition). So we went to Nashville, Tennessee for the first time on the week of my 13th birthday. I loved Nashville. I met Lainey on set, she was the sweetest person ever, we talked about music and I played her my song, she was so supportive. She left set way before us to go sing at The Grand Ole Opry. We didn’t leave set until way after her performance had started but I begged my parents to just take me to see Opryland Park that night. So we did and I just loved everything about it. A security guard let us go in the gift shop and I saw Lainey singing on stage from a distance as someone walked out of the door. I decided right there that I wanted to sing country music and I want to sing on that The Grand Ole Opry stage one day like Lainey. My parents bought me a rhinestone and denim jacket that night in The Grand Ole Opry Gift Shop as Lainey finished her set. I wear it a lot when I perform now. We got back to Mississippi and my producer and I revamped Mississippi Malibu to be a country song and we got hooked up with Georgette Jones, she is the daughter of George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Tammy Wynette is from Mississippi so Georgette loved the song and agreed to do a feature on it. And my first country song released in the spring of 2026. I am a huge Supercross fan and this year I got to sing The National Anthem for Monster Energy Supercross for 60,000 people in Houston, Texas. I met a lot of the riders which was also a dream come true for me- Haiden Deegan, Hunter Lawrence and Cooper Webb, that was a really cool experience. I have been back to Nashville and been in another music video and sang in downtown Nashville and in The Gaylord for National Beta Club Convention. I am singing and playing guitar anywhere I can and taking any opportunities I get. I am just so happy to get to do what I love right now. I have met some awesome people and gained some great people on my team- Landrums Art and Actor’s Choice Talent Agency and all of my music teachers. And right here in Mississippi, Jones College let me use their state of the art studio to rerecord my country version of Mississippi Malibu so that I didn’t have to go back to California to do it and we could get it out quicker, that was a huge help. I have some awesome online fans, even in Canada and I am so grateful for them all and everything I have going on.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s in my biography answer but I had some health problems come up just as I got going heavy on my music and had to stop and have surgery instead of release my first single. Also, my age has been a setback. There are so many venues I can’t play and National Competitions I’m not old enough for yet. So I just keep doing what all I can do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer/ songwriter, I also play piano and guitar and I’m about to add violin to that list. I got attention when I started because I was so young and could belt and riff high notes. I am most proud of having my 2 singles out and that Georgette Jones was gracious enough to fit in her schedule to do a feature on Mississippi Malibu. I my age and my drive is what sets me apart. I figured out at 11 that I needed to learn piano to be a songwriter so I learned that as fast as I could. Then I realized that I don’t always want to depend on a track and I can’t haul a piano everywhere, so I better learn guitar, so I picked that up at 12. Now at 13 I realize that in this business, the more instruments you know, the better off you are, so this year I am picking up violin.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Drive and determination. I love being up on stage or in a recording studio so much. There is a lot of rejection and sometimes unfairness and you have to love what you do way more than you dislike any of the other things to want to keep going.
