Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Bream.
Hi Amy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Amy Bream, and I’m a 29-year-old adaptive athlete with a passion for challenging myself with new boundaries and physical limits. I was born with PFFD, meaning I’m missing the majority of my right leg. I’ve never had an amputation and have used a prosthesis since I was one year old. I never pursued any type of athletics until I moved to Nashville and started to work out at a boxing gym in 2015. Since then, my skill and confidence as an athlete have grown exponentially. I had the honor of collaborating with brands such as Nike and East in several sports and marketing campaigns, and I recently competed in the 2021 Crossfit Games in the Open Women’s Lower Extremity division.
I started sharing my journey via Instagram in 2016, and I had no idea the doors it would open, as well as the personal accountability it would serve for me. I was telling people in my posts to stop being afraid and try new things, so I felt compelled to do the same. Since starting the account, I’ve learned to kickbox, rock climb, wake surf, ski, paddleboard, weight-lift, and more. I’ve been amazed at learning new limits that I used to say no to, and I’m excited to continue my journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a journey of learning to gain courage and confidence in myself. I’ve found that the biggest obstacles I’ve overcome so far haven’t been because of a particular “big moment,” but more because of small, daily decisions I’ve made to continually grow and challenge myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently work as Operations Director for Title Nash, which encompasses the three Title Boxing locations in Nashville.
Any big plans?
I plan to keep competing in adaptive competitions, and I would love to start more speaking engagements where I share my story and share some of the skills I’ve learned with other adaptive athletes.
