Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Goodman.
Hi Andrea, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I grew up in Liberty, KY. Once I graduated from Campbellsville University, I moved to Bowling Green, KY to teach. While there, I began playing shows with various artists on the local music scene on the side. While teaching, I discovered my passion for writing and also helped start a church where I helped lead praise and worship.
From performing the national anthem at numerous events, along with performing cover shows, I realized I wanted to do music more and more. In the midst of doors closing in Bowling Green, I decided to make the move to Nashville in the fall of 2014. Over the past seven years, I have honed my skills as an artist and also acquired a large network of other artists.
My debut album titled, “No Man’s Land”, came out in 2019. On that album, there is a song called, “Bourbon Breakdown”, which inspired the writer’s night that I host to this day at various venues around town and throughout the country.
I’ve always said, I wanted to make a lucrative living with what I love and anything beyond that is simply icing on the top.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There have been many ups and downs along the way. Earning enough money through the years has been very difficult, especially during a time when we weren’t allowed to play in-person shows. Housing and roommates proved to be the toughest of obstacles until I met my husband in 2017.
We began dating in 2018 and married in 2019. With his father having been an artist himself, Marty (my husband), very much understands what life entails doing what I do to pursue my career. He not only holds my hand along the way but has also helped propel my career and given Bourbon Breakdown nights new breath.
Another difficulty along the way is finding your tribe and I’m blessed to say I have a pretty strong one at this point. I surround myself with encouraging and equally talented folks who are also passionate about creating their own music careers.
We all struggle daily knowing how to best navigate an industry that doesn’t have a clear-cut formula to it, but with each other we know we’re not alone.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I pride myself on connecting with my audiences in ways that leave them feeling like they’ve spent quality time with a dear friend. I don’t consider new fans anything less than friends acquired.
Because of this, I’ve been invited into homes for private parties, sometimes playing, sometimes not. I’ve made friends that I visit throughout the country and some of them more than likely will be lifelong. I also try to foster a fun learning environment at my Bourbon Breakdown events for artists new and more experienced alike.
I try to create a family-type atmosphere that makes playing songs for folks that much more enjoyable. I try to give folks the same type of shots I’ve been given myself.
What were you like growing up?
I was a very shy kid growing up. My reservations came from trauma from tumultuous home life and eventually a situation of a broken home.
I had a hard time figuring out where I fit until I reached high school and got involved with the marching band. This helped me take my love for music and transform it into being active with my love.
I came out of my shell and learned so many skills I use to this day in my career.
