Hi Andrew, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Indianapolis native Andrew Young, is a Platinum downloaded singer/songwriter, with major distribution through Sony Music. He received a Grammy consideration in 2023, for his song, “I Don’t Like Him” in the Best R&B song category. 2024 saw a Grammy consideration for his song “Love Language”, for Best R&B Song, and Best Pop Vocal Performance for his song “Outside”. This iconic vocalist has come a long way since his teen years of being a recurring champion on the television show Star Search. This has led to millions of streams on every digital music platform, including over two and a half million streams on Spotify alone. Andrew has headlined in most major cities across the United States including New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Nashville, Miami, Orlando, Indianapolis, Chicago, Atlanta, and Detroit, to name a few. Indianapolis sports teams have taken notice leading to performances of the National Anthem for The Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Indians, and Indianapolis Ice. National recognition came soon after with performances of the National Anthem on the Television Networks ESPN, CBS, and TNT. Andrew keeps a busy Indianapolis, and regional schedule of events. This includes, on average, 3 shows per week.
Along with his busy singing schedule, Andrew had the time to finish his Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts Administration from Butler University. Acting has always been his passion! This had led to various TV commercials for Kroger, ATT, ITT, The Hoosier Lottery, and many others.
2019 saw his first platinum downloaded single. His music has been supported in Indianapolis on WTLC, and nationally on Sirius/XM radio. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The Industry has not always been smooth. There has always been a constant need to reinvent myself to stay relevant. Covid in 2020 to 2021 was particularly hard, with very few live performances scheduled. It was very hard just to make ends meet. My income is based on live shows and teaching voice. There wasn’t a lot of either going on for a year and a half. In 2022 I also lost my mother. She was the most important person in my life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in R&B music. I write and produce not only my music, but for many other artists as well. I’m particularly proud of my accomplishments as a performer. I have shared the stage with so many established artists. Being on Starr Search in 1989 as a recurring champion helped catapult my career at the young age of 18. Since then I have shared the stage with so many giants of music! I’m also proud of the two million plus streams on my own label, ARY Records which is distributed through Sony/Orchard! Another huge accomplishment has been the three Grammy considerations in 2023 and 2024!
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
It matters that I leave a legacy of my music for many years after I’m gone! I want to be remembered as a great vocalist, song writer, and business person!
