Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Bosio.
Hi Angie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since childhood, I have always drawn cartoons and characters as a hobby. I continued sketching and drawing into adulthood. One year for Lent, I journaled with scripture every day and did drawings instead of writing refections. This started a daily habit that extended past Easter. Some days, I drew an image of the saint of the day.
I was doing this while on vacation with friends when a friend asked me to do a specific saint drawing for her. When I had completed the image, I wanted to present it as a gift and not just a page torn out of a sketchbook. This sent me on a journey through the world of digital media gifts where I landed at a vendor selling beautiful high-quality magnets which you can customize with your own design.
I was so pleased with the result that I created more saint images and ordered more magnets and gave them away as gifts. Soon I realized, I had a marketable idea. I sold my first batch of saint magnets on Facebook for Christmas 2018. The next year I attended various festivals at churches where people sell crafts, food, and merchandise, especially around the holiday season.
The magnets sold quickly and I build a solid online presence with my website www.angiessaintmagnet.com. I continue to create images and sell magnets online and in person at church events. I currently have over 80 unique designs. I also do custom work for anniversaries, memorials, weddings, etc.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
After a great year of growth in 2019, I was ready for a big year in 2020. Of course, that did not happen with in-person events getting canceled. I tried to keep interested in my product on social media but I wasn’t creating new designs.
I had allowed the loss of momentum to affect my creative process and passion for the business.
In 2021, I refocused and started drawing again. I attended twice as many in person events as in 2019 including a National Conference with over 15,000 participants. This re-energized my dedication to the business and I am back on track this year with another National Conference and more in person events on the calendar.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My full-time job is Director of Youth Ministry at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Old Hickory, TN. I primarily work with our high school students and their families.
I lead a team of volunteers for our Sunday evening high school program which is a mix of youth group activities with a strong education component. Our group is known for being a safe space for students to share and learn about their faith in a world that seems to be becoming increasingly hostile to people of faith.
I am especially proud of my adult team which is made up of volunteers who’ve served for over 20 years, parents of past students, and alumni of our program. The work I do would be impossible without their dedication and service.
