Check Out Ashley Brooke’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Brooke

Hi Ashley, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a Nashville comedian and first time author. I started standup in Nashville at a dive bar named, “Spanky’s” in 2010. I fell in love with the art and threw myself into it. I moved to Chicago to continue my journey, but I struggled with my physical and mental health.

I returned to Nashville heartbroken, disappointed, and unwell. This propelled me deeper into a journey of self-discovery and healing.

I spent years in counseling to discover the root of my grief and pain. In 2022, I had memories surface of a painful childhood that was long forgotten. I devoted myself to making one of my first dreams come true. I wrote a book, a story of my life to help others and to share my hope and faith.

I have also turned to social media and began sharing my journey on TikTok as @ashleytalkstrauma to educate others on what I have learned about trauma and the mind, body, spirit connection.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ha! Is anything really a smooth road? Life is not Sesame Street, unfortunately. I hit many speed bumps in my journey into comedy and into becoming the woman I am today. I do believe the u-turns and dead ends in life are meant to strengthen our character. While they were painful and I often succumbed to whiplash, I can now see they have created a perseverance that cannot be gained in another way.

I struggled a lot with my confidence and feeling I had to prove myself to different comedy communities and to the world. A huge part of my healing journey was being able to break away from the “I need approval” mentality.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a standup comedian, actress, and an author. I write jokes and I share ugly, hard truths.

I would say what sets me apart is I have learned how to share trauma and humor in a way that doesn’t leave readers or an audience in shell shock. The genuine love I have for people and wanting to help them sets me apart from others. I want to see people heal and live fulfilling lives.

My book “Ashes No More” is available on Amazon, at Landmark Booksellers, Logos Christian Bookstore, and anywhere you buy books online.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have a lot of people who have mentored me over the years including Kay Dodd and Stephen Bargatze. I would say my biggest cheerleaders are my best friends, Jayme and Lucy. They’re not only my cheerleaders, they’re my best friends, my family, and my unpaid counselors.

And of course, the Lord. I would have nothing if it wasn’t for Him. I’ve been very blessed despite it all.
