Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Glover.
Brett, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always loved expressing myself through personal style but it wasn’t always something I was proud of – so as a teen, I hid my creativeness and attempted to blend in. Standing out got too much attention and a lot of that was negative.
I eventually landed my dream job in retail and began to embrace that creativity once again. After 10+ years in mall retail, I needed a change. Out of desperation (and out of money), I found a job at a thrift store! It was the best job ever!
I learned so much there and decided to combine my love of traditional retail and thrift and create Glover’s Secondhand. I call it a “thriftique” because it’s a hybrid of thrift and boutique.
Soon, we added our Collective where we rent spaces in our shop to showcase LOCAL makers, creators, and curators. Ultimately, I see this business as a ministry that focuses on creating and restoring!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been relatively smooth but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been opportunities to learn… there have been so many!
Starting small has helped us avoid many mistakes that are typically made in the business.
There have been days with no sales and that is the most challenging for me, mentally, but during those “slow” times I choose to make those “grow” times and get ready for all the sales headed my way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We specialize in UNIQUE items, whether that be one-of-a-kind jewelry or vintage clothing! We are known more for vintage clothing, but have a little bit of everything!
I’m most proud of the community we’ve created here and how every person is there to pitch in and encourage one another! These people are not vendors, they are co-owners and FAMILY!
We are set apart because of our welcoming and inclusive environment!
What were you like growing up?
I loved most things that others in my small, rural town did not lol but I’m so thankful for being “different” now because I can identify with many groups of people!
