Check Out Caitlin Reyes’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Reyes.

Caitlin Reyes

Hi Caitlin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My background is in nursing, I worked as a Registered Nurse for 7 years before having my first son in 2020. I have been home caring for my two boys over the last 4 years which has kept me very busy!

Earlier this summer I stumbled upon an ice cream cart business based out of state that primarily serves at weddings, and I just fell in love with the idea! I thought the concept was so cute, and I felt that it could do really well here in Nashville! I reached out to Nash Family Creamery, as it was important to me if I did this that I serve local, high quality ice cream. Nash Family Creamery is located in Chapel Hill, TN, and sits on the same property as the family’s 4th generation dairy farm. They use the highest standards in caring for their cows and they pride themselves on making small-batch, high quality, delicious ice cream! They agreed to partner with me, so from there I created my business name, The Little Southern Ice Cream Cart, ordered my ice cream cart, and before I knew it I had my first booking! This business has been SO much fun! From weddings and birthday parties to real estate and corporate events, I get to be a part of so many special moments!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall everything has gone pretty smoothly so far! I transport the ice cream cart on a trailer behind my truck, so learning to navigate with a trailer has certainly been a learning curve for me. Thankfully I’ve had a lot of help from my husband! It took some trial and error for me to figure out how to get my ice cream to the right temperature to scoop (scooping ice cream for 150 people when it is rock hard is quite the arm workout). Now that I am several months into this I have my system down, and my events have been running very smoothly.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I graduated from The Ohio State University in 2013 and worked as a Registered Nurse before having my first son Knox in 2020. I left my role as a RN to stay home with him and then went on to have my second son Crew 2 years later. As proud as I am of my nursing career my proudest accomplishment will always be being a mother to my two boys!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Just go for it! I had a lot of doubts and uncertainties starting this business, and I am so glad I didn’t let that stop me from doing this. You figure it out one day at a time (I still am). It has been such a fun journey so far and I am excited to see where this little business goes!
