Check Out Caitlyn Jones’ Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlyn Jones.

Hi Caitlyn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a smaller town and I knew from a young age that I wanted to move to a bigger city. I’m from Hopkinsville, Kentucky so Nashville Tn. wasn’t too far of a move but still exciting nonetheless and I definitely worked hard to get here.

I’ve had a passion for hair, makeup, and all things beauty really from the time I was a little girl I just didn’t realize this would end up becoming my career and that I would actually get to make a great living from it. I finally decided when I was eighteen that I would skip college and go straight to cosmetology school which was definitely challenging because I had been homeschooled all of my life.

So, being in a structured environment and all that came along with it was kind of a shock (a miracle I made it through school haha) but couldn’t be happier with where I am today and where I see my career going.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting my first job in a salon was so exciting but also a real reality check. I went through a year of an associate program which was very difficult, to say the least, I was commuting from Kentucky to Nashville 5 to 6 days a week driving three hours round-trip and that continued for two years.

That was a really difficult time in my life, between work and personal matters, looking back I really don’t know how I even got through that phase. In one way I’m really glad that it wasn’t easy. It’s made me appreciate what I have now with my job and my personal life, I wouldn’t be able to have what I do. I’m very proud of how far I’ve come in the past 5 to 6 years, and always trying to push myself to be better.

I’ve been blessed with success early in my career which has allowed me to accomplish a lot of my goals by the age of 24 such as buying my first house and getting a reliable new car.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Specializing in lived-in colors, hair extensions, and balayage techniques are what I’m known for.

One thing that I think sets me apart from others is my drive and having a genuine and honest relationship with all of my clients. Making my clients happy is always my priority.

As well as always striving to learn new techniques and keep up with the trends.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
It sounds cliché but I feel like when you experience anything that’s really life-changing like the pandemic it just really opens your eyes again and reminds you what’s really important. For stylists, it was a big hit, with salons being closed and not being able to work for months, and is still affecting salons even now.

But it also makes you realize how fast some things can get taken away and gives you a new appreciation for everything in general. I was so happy to be able to return to work once salons started re-opening and it just really made me fall in love with my job even more.
