Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlyn Knowles.
Hi Caitlyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hey! My name is Caitlyn Knowles and I am a multidisciplinary artist from Clarksville, TN. I’ve been dancing since I was very little, and worked my way through the convention/competition circuit in grade school. With the support of my mentor, Kemmian Beard, I started training beyond my hometown and experiencing dance in other cities. After years of training and traveling around the US, I have focused on staying versatile & connected to the dance industry. I’m currently signed under FreshTalent Group, and have had the privilege to work on music videos, tv shows, live performances, and more. At 17, I was a contestant on an NBC reality TV show, and was fascinated by all of the moving parts of the production process. From that point forward, I realized that my interest in the industry went beyond performing, and I wanted to learn more about what I had witnessed. A few months after the show, I attended Belmont University and began studying Media Production. During my Freshman and Sophomore year, I also taught weekly open classes at Millennium Dance Complex: Nashville and worked a few other side gigs to make ends meet.
This past year, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to study and work in both New York and Los Angeles through the Belmont USA program, and I am currently back in Nashville to finish my Bachelors Degree. During my travels, I have been able to join several training programs, build incredible connections, and gain hands-on experience with live sets. It was truly a game changer for me, and I have a clearer perspective of what I want my future in the arts to look like.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has come with a fair share of growing pains, but I’ve made a conscious effort to go with the flow and trust that my persistence & work ethic will pay off. Being able to trust the plan God has in store for me, and visualize where I want to be gives me reason to persevere through whatever is pushing against the flow.
Lately, I’ve been working on finding balance. After hitting multiple artistic burnouts, I realized that you can’t pour from an empty cup. Taking time to recharge is essential, and experiencing art is a huge part of the creative process. Therefore, I’m focused on creating a space for myself that feels balanced— that way I can fill up and pour out at the same time.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve worked on a lot of projects through the years that I am proud of. Here is a speed run through some highlights:
At 16, I started choreographing my own solos for competitions, which was was a huge learning curve and important milestone. Those pre-choreographed solos developed into improv pieces, and that is truly the most fun I’ve ever had on stage. Getting feedback on my concepts was incredible, and that shaped many aspects of how I approach teaching and creating for others.
In high school and early college, I spent a lot of my time posting on social media. My TikTok videos are actually what landed me on Dancing With Myself in 2022, and jumpstarted my interest in to production work.
In 2023, I won the Frank Zujewski Scholarship for dance. I debuted my first multi-cast piece, performed an improv solo, and danced in 3 other works. Huge thank you to Stacie Flood-Popp for trusting my vision and giving me a platform to share it.
Fall 2024 in New York, I was blessed to perform alongside Jennifer Hudson in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. I had an amazing experience training with Kelly Peters and the crew at Brickhouse during my time there. Getting the opportunity to perform with this family was icing on the cake. Spring 2025, I split my time between training at The Room hosted by Kolanie Marks, and being a production assistant on various film sets.
Currently, I’m working as a summer intern with Belmont’s event staff. We will be all hands on deck for the debut of Dolly Parton’s new musical in July at the Fisher Center. I am conceptualizing some new dance videos to be released over the summer as well.
Beyond dance, my appreciation for art runs deep. I have been drawing, acting, and singing since elementary school. Over time, those hobbies have grown in to photography, videography, painting, collaging, post-editing, sewing, and multiple other side-hustles. In other words, I am an artist through and through. No matter where life has taken me, I always revert back to art in some form.
What matters most to you? Why?
Oh gosh- there are so many levels to this question, but I’ll keep it light.
I always value quality time, whether that’s spent with other people or just myself. Being around friends and family is what keeps me grounded. I love watching movies with my mom in the living room, going out to dinner with friends, or taking a solo walk to grab coffee. Those moments remind me of who I am and why I love doing what I do.
