Today we’d like to introduce you to Cesar Gutierrez.
Hi Cesar, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Cesar Gutierrez, a 34 years old Software Engineer from León, México.
I’ve been in the IT industry for over 12 years, working with fellow Mexicans, as well as professionals from Colombia, USA, Germany, Belarus and India, collaborating in projects from healthcare, legal, eCommerce, finance and travel industries, using Microsoft technologies.
I have a master’s degree in web technologies and mobile devices, which allowed me to be a teacher for college and post graduate students for almost 4 years.
I’m currently living in Guadalajara, where aside from my professional duties, I’m also an Irish dancer.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Focusing on my independent life, one of the biggest challenges is to maintain a work-life balance, especially considering all my activities.
Sometimes it can be overwhelming due to the unpredictable timelines in the software industry, which forces me to maintain a discipline to organize my time and responsibilities, without sacrificing my personal life.
I believe that success has a particular meaning for everyone, so in order to achieve it, we must embrace the obstacles and the unknown by committing to our purpose. We may have plans, but the conditions and our environment will not always be aligned, so challenges are part of our journey, and they should be good enough to keep us engaged, but not so we want to throw the towel at the first inconvenience happens,
I think that dealing with completely different fields such as technology and dancing allowed me to be resilient and that’s an important reason of where I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’d like to share my background as an Irish dancer.
I started learning this technique around October 2017, prior to that, the music and dancing style were completely unknown to me.
My experience includes shows in small theaters and malls in Guadalajara, but I also I have performed
a couple of times for the Irish Embassy in Mexico.
Competitively speaking, I’m in the Adult Championship category, which allows me to participate and represent Mexico at international competitions.
As of now, I have competed in USA, Canada, UK and Ireland.
Some of my achievements include placing in the podium of both North American and Great Britain Irish Dance Championships, as well as being the first Mexican dancer winning the Southern Region (USA and Mexico) Adult Championship, which I have won 2 years in a row (2024 and 2025).
What do you like and dislike about the city?
From the cities in the US that I have visited, Nashville stands out by having multiple touristic places to enjoy, including a Parthenon’s replica which I got to visit back in 2023, since the North American Irish Dance Championships (NAIDC) took place there.
Overall, people are friendly and welcoming, so that makes the visit totally worth it.
