Check Out Cherie Cheezcake’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherie Cheezcake.

Hi Cherie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a burlesque dancer and sideshow artist currently residing in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Originally from Memphis, I moved to Nashville in 2015 to pursue performance education and career. I’ve been bumpin’ and grindin’ since 2011 and was named “A Sweet Bite of Burly-Q Delight!” In 2018, I soft-launched Cherie Bombs, my bath + skin business, where I make colorful and dessert-themed soaps and skincare.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Performing burlesque and running a small business with a disability can definitely be frustrating at times. I was born with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in most of the right side of my body, with several of my joints fused together permanently – including my ankle and elbow. Luckily, I’m extremely stubborn so I just keep going!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I tend to specialize in cheesecake pin-up and burlesque. In the early 20th century, “cheesecake” was a slang word that became a publicly acceptable term for scantily-clad or nude photos of women. Pin-up as an art form was considered very taboo. Now, it is usually used to refer to someone that does sweet, soft, and/or cute pin-up or burlesque. My first burlesque troupe, Tennessee Tease, helped name me Cherie Cheezcake after my red-pink hair and my sweet personality.

What are your plans for the future?
Oh, I have so many ideas for the future! My fellow stripteasers will understand this, as the entertainment industry was shut down for nearly the entirety of 2020. Our industry was one of the hardest hits and many of us were denied unemployment services because we don’t exactly work 9-5 jobs. However, I am starting to look into working with pin-up photographers again which is extremely exciting. I feel so, so blessed that Cherie Bombs has been able to have numerous collection launches this year (it’s not even July yet!). This includes a very successful princess-themed collection which contained bath bombs, shower icing, and chocolate bar shaped soaps. I am truly overwhelmed with gratitude with all of the support I’ve gotten!
