Check Out Chris Long’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Long.

Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began playing music when I was about twelve, learning from my dad. He was a performing musician and I had been around it my whole life. It wasn’t long before I was performing with bands, which I did through high school and college. We cut our first independent album in 1999..
After college I put the guitar down for about ten years working on a career in television, before going back to school to become a history teacher. It was teaching that gave me the time to venture back into music. Then life changes led me to begin performing as an acoustic solo artist/singer-songwriter.. I’ve been doing that now for the last fifteen years.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been smooth for the most part. With anything there are ups and downs, but for me success is always what you want it to be. I perform regularly about twice a week, still write songs, and collect guitars. Getting to do that while being with family and friends while doing something I love is success for me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a performing singer songwriter.. my style is a little hard to nail down. It’s part Americana, part blues, part rock, a little folk, and a smidge of country and mountain music. A local radio host called it Appalachiacana, I just stick to that.

I do not know what really sets me apart. There are so many talented musicians in our area that I am honored just to be a part of the community.. I really don’t play for the fame or the fortune, I do it because I love playing and writing songs.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was pretty much the same as I am today. I loved music, studying history, and playing baseball. Aside from being to broke down to play baseball anymore, I’m pretty much the same guy..
