Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris McKechnie.
Hi Chris, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been in video production since I was eight, raised in the industry and shaped by the so-called “Hollywood” lifestyle. Now at 43, the Lord has brought me out of that corrupt world and redirected my gifts toward telling stories that glorify Him.
Today, my focus is on creating faith-based content and seeking the Lord’s guidance in every project I take on—trusting Him to lead me to the stories He wants told.
I work as a cinematographer, editor, and colorist, and I’ve been blessed to contribute to feature films, documentaries, shorts, infomercials, commercials, brand films, and music videos.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road isn’t easy. Scripture tells us to count the cost, and that’s something I challenge myself to do daily. As the sole provider for my family, with my wife homeschooling our children, the struggle—and at times, the fear—of not having enough to cover our needs has been a real one. It can feel crippling at times.
We are blessed to live in a renovated school bus. Yes, it’s tight and can be challenging—but we’ve learned you don’t actually need 3,000 square feet to live a joy-filled life. Would we love a little more space? Absolutely. But I’ve learned to be thankful for what we do have, because we are abundantly blessed.
The Lord has and continues to show up. Over and over. We’ve seen His provision, His faithfulness, and His presence in ways that are unmistakably Him—especially in these past few years.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been blessed to work on many projects, but one of my favorites in recent years was the faith-based feature film Dot Conner: Webtective. Getting to take my kids to the theater and watch something their dad was part of is a memory I’ll cherish forever. It was the first time that a professional dream became a reality, and I owe it all to the Lord.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
That’s a difficult question. I’ve never been the type who enjoys being in the spotlight or talking much about myself. But over the last year, the Lord has been prompting—almost urging—me to share my story. It’s uncomfortable and honestly a little scary, but He’s entrusted me with a platform meant to encourage others and reflect His light.
In stepping into that obedience, I’ve found myself being more open than ever before, and as a result, many people now know quite a bit about my journey.
