Check Out Christian McGee’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian McGee.

Hi Christian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started with the video editing in my Junior year of high school (6 years ago) when I began a summer job at a skydiving facility editing together the videos skydiver’s took with their tandem customers.

This eventually lead to me wanting to learn more about videography itself and I began to film things such as music videos, travels, real estate videos, and product videos. None of it was very fulfilling for me until I did my first wedding.

I loved knowing that I was creating something that would outlive me and have so much meaning in another person’s and their family’s lives. I gradually moved into doing mostly wedding videos with the occasional non-wedding project here and there.

I’ve been doing weddings full-time for just under 4 years now!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business is never a smooth road, let alone a creative business.

I had many struggles from having to rent gear I didn’t have in the beginning, learning how to edit and having to use school computers that were faster than my laptop, realizing I was severely undercharging, and building a brand/network.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in crafting wedding films for adventurous souls who are deeply in love. In these wedding films, my goal isn’t to just show what the day looked like- I want to show how it FELT like.

This usually means using more candid moments rather than posed ones, using audio from the day, incorporating home videos to help tell a couple’s story outside just the wedding day, and intentionally editing it together using notes I’ve taken from the first call I have with a couple all the way up to their grand exit on the wedding day.

The result is a film that is more tailored to them than the average cookie-cutter wedding film.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My grandmother and I used to hike all over the woods of my childhood home, exploring the different landscapes and packing lunches to enjoy on the peaks of the rolling hills where we would rest before continuing on.

No longer having that land to explore, it’s a memory I cherish and will never forget.
