Check Out Codi McIvor’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Codi McIvor.

Hi Codi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started in the entertainment scene when I was about 18 years old and I worked for an entertainment company that would bring in a lot of artists for concerts. I was one of their main promoters along with some side Emcee gigs with them at select shows/nightclubs.

I then got out of the promoter scene and decided to take a break from the entertainment scene for a few years and that’s when I found my love for videography. I decided to pick up a camera and do some weekly vlogs around the city or when I traveled which allowed me to learn editing and piece together content from a bunch of random shots that I was doing that day.

I felt this was not good enough and I began thinking I wanted to get back into the entertainment scene so that’s when I got to thinking, what is missing in the industry right now and that’s how I came up with my own interview series show which gives artists another platform to promote their music and upcoming events. I didn’t think it would get to where it is today but I’m super grateful to have so many great artists who want to be a part of it.

I then wanted to get more into the camera work with artists and that’s when I started working more alongside Country Artist from Alberta Drew Gregory who took me under his wing and allowed me to come film some of his shows. We built this great friendship as I would follow him at so many different shows and that’s when he asked me to be a part of “The Barn Sessions” where we all went to this barn on a farm for a few days and they brought in all the recording equipment for him to record his new EP along with filming the music videos for it. This was the first big project I have been a part of and I’m super grateful he asked me to be a part of it as he has such a great team and band to work alongside.

Since then I’ve Been doing a lot more interviews along with filming so many different artists at their events being given the opportunity to work along side artists such as High Valley, Aaron Goodvin, Jade Eagleson & more putting together recap videos for them at their shows. I’ve also just recently found out I made the second ballot for video director of the year at the Canadian Country Music Awards so here’s hoping I am able to make it as a final nominee!

That’s pretty much the story of how I got to where I am today and what I am currently up to.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road at all. I’ve had a lot of late nights editing, I’ve had to take a lot of the answer “No” to some artists however I never take no for an answer I’ll normally take it as a “Not right now” and then I go back and figure what I could change to interest certain artists.

The biggest thing for me throughout this whole career has been patience. If you have great patience and do the work I’m telling you things will start to come your way as nothing happens overnight, everything takes time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an Interview Host / Digital Creator where I get to show one-on-one interviews, behind the scenes moments they may never get to see with artists along with some exclusive footage showcasing each artist at their shows.

I would say I’m most proud of the friendships I’ve made in this industry. Everyone has been so kind and welcoming in this industry so far. So I’m super grateful to have met so many great people along the way.

What does success mean to you?
I would define success as when someone achieves the goals they have set for themselves.
