Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Carr – Trick Arrow Publishing
Daniel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Storytellers in Songwriting Showcase began in 2022 as a listening room, where local artists featured original music. A combination of selecting good locations, and incredibly professional performers, came together to create magic. Growth happened quickly because good music tells good stories and we were able to include nearly anyone that could develop their talent. After more than 2 years, we’ve played 88 shows and continue to add artists every week.
“Storytellers in Songwriting” is a showcase of more than 70 performers that are local to Nashville and ready to play.
We create customized live entertainment showcases based on your needs. Big crowds, small crowds, listening rooms, background music, cover sets, original sets, full band or acoustic… The list goes on and on because Nashville is an evolving music machine. Not only is the type of music coming through town more diverse, it’s at a higher quality than ever before. We do the hard part of harnessing that performance power and bottling it into a showcase that will exceed the expectations of your audience. The members of our group range widely, from fresh-to-town future stars, to tenured professionals, to those that have already had their heyday in music, leaving us with an abundance of stories to tell! We’ve done many different types of shows, including writers rounds, private events and parties, and more.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road, is it?
I don’t know how to talk about all these things that you’d consider obstacles without it sounding like complaining. There’s always going to be challenges, otherwise, how will we become better? What sets us apart is how we handle the adversity, how it pulls us together, instead of apart. We recently lost a residency that lasted about 16 months, but instead of letting it get me down, it kind of lit a fire inside of me.
Isn’t there a saying about anything that’s worth doing…?
There are the typical challenges that you’d expect, and then there’s always unique situations. I like to compare our little community to something that one of the writers of Superman said; that we’ll always be “as strong as the moment needs us to be”. This just means that we will persist through all the challenges that we need, in order to continue to make a positive impact.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m most proud of the community that we’ve built, and the connections that have been made simply because this group existed. It makes me happy to think that we’re making people better on and off the stage.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I’ve still got a long way to go before I consider what we’re doing a complete success. There’s a lot of steps to be made when it comes to creating an environment that appreciates the value that these artists are bringing to the table. I think the saturation of our market, and maybe some experiences with amateurs, over time has created some stigma barriers that need to be knocked down. It’ll be nice to see the folks that are booking the music are the ones that are connected to the music community. I think that’s one of the most unique services that the Storytellers group can offer. A bar manager/hotel manager isn’t just filling a slot to check off a list; we’re entrenched in the community and build high quality shows. The artists have as much fun as the folks that watch the performance.
