Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbie Flood.
Hi Debbie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a female drummer who has been performing for over 3 decades. I started performing at age 13 and immediately fell in love with the instrument. In high school, I spent endless hours learning my instrument performing as lead snare in marching band, orchestra, jazz band, pit band. I played as much as I could. After college, I toured nationally. I have also been on many recordings and enjoy studio session work very much. In the past, I have also taught drums. Playing drums is in my soul and I love to bring joy to people through music. Please check out my website for more information (www.DFloodDrums.com)… I left music for about 10 years but with the support of my family, I realized I needed to be making music again so I took a huge risk in April 2019 to move to Nashville. This was such a hard time at first. I spent countless hours at jams trying to meet people. Eventually, I began getting work in town and was so grateful I did. It has been an honor and a privilege to play with such artists as Karen Waldrup, Kristen Ford, AC Thomas, etc. I cannot believe how amazing it is to live in a town like Nashville and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being female in a largely male-dominated occupation has been very challenging. It has been so hard to be taken seriously. Often it seems like people will choose the male musician without even given female musicians a chance. This has resulted in me working even harder to try to get better at my craft.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an Independent Drummer for hire. I specialize in tour support for artists as well as studio session work. I am well versed in Ableton Live and running backing tracks. I am currently working on my in-home studio where I will be doing recording and creating beats. I just love to make music and playing drums is magical.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I believe in tolerance and diversity and respect for all. There is no room for hate only love. Music brings us all together and that is why I make music. I love people having fun and relating to the emotion that the music brings.
