Check Out Derek Shampine’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek Shampine.

Hi Derek, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Originally from a small town in Upstate, NY, Owner/Chef Derek moved to Nashville in 2005 to pursue a career in the Music Industry. After a few years working with various artists throughout the Country Music scene as a Tour Manager, Derek decided to come off the road and settle down with his now Wife (a Nashville Native) to start a family and life off the road. With Upstate Pierogi Co. Derek wanted to pay homage to the classic Polish pierogi that he grew up on, while also bringing a new modern twist by creating some other unique and fun flavors.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
creating and building a business is never a smooth road, especially starting at the beginning of the Covid Pandemic, made it an extra layer of challenging.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m known around town (to some) as “The Pierogi Guy”. I would say I specialize in Pierogi w/ a modern twist. I’m most proud that i’ve been able to stick around over the years and continue to build and create new customer bases along the way, since its not easy to do. I’d say what sets me apart is being a unique/creative food item in the ever changing, booming, Nashville food scene.

What were you like growing up?
I was a pretty normal, outgoing kid for the most part growing up in a small town in Upstate NY. I played most sports offered in school, but then started to gain more interest in doing music as I got older, which is when I decided to pursue that further in higher education, and as a living after school ended, Overall, I had a pretty standard small-town America childhood.
