Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Atansio.
Hi Diana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi there! My name is Diana Atansio, and I am a worship leader and singer/songwriter! I release music under my artist name, SioVera. I began writing songs when I was 12. I remember having all these ideas for melodies and lyrics coming to my mind and not knowing what to do with them, so I began writing them down. When I was 14, I remember the Lord calling me to step into worship ministry, leaning more into writing and sharing my music. So that is what I began doing! I picked up a guitar, began doing vocal exercises, and started learning how to sing. I did this mostly from my bedroom until I went to college at Judson University in Illinois and began leading worship at our chapel services and writing and recording my music. It was such a sweet season of trusting in God’s promise and lots of growth. I graduated in 2019 and married my husband, Joey, whom I met at school through our music program. We began working as worship leaders in a church in a farming community in Illinois and dreaming of what it would look like to make music together. It was in our first few months of marriage that SioVera was dreamed up and created. We recorded our first cover/mash-up, “Goodness of God//No Longer Slaves//King of My Heart,” in our living room, where my husband recorded, produced, and filmed a music video for our first release. It was such a fun experience. Then 2020 hit. We were spending days, then weeks, then months working from home, leading worship online, and not being able to see family or friends much. It was in the midst of this chaotic and unexpected season that I began pouring more time into SioVera and began working on multiple releases. We didn’t have a great recording set-up, and we couldn’t travel to record in a studio, so we recorded my vocals in between two mattresses we had propped up in a hallway of our home. It was something else, but we made it work! We then released a series of Spanish and English worship covers throughout 2020 and 2021! In the fall of 2020, my husband and I packed up our home and moved to Nashville, where I now write music and lead worship. I released my first original song last summer and am working on new music I hope to share soon, both in Spanish and English!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a crazy ride! I felt God was calling me to make music and specifically into music ministry at 14, but I had no music experience. So these last 10 years have been a season of learning new things, growing, and incredible new adventures! There are many seasons when things have been chaotic, like these last few months, but God is always good and faithful. At the end of last year, I stepped away from a full-time job where I was working with a group of incredible people and went remote to spend more time on music and worship leading. It was a crazy decision, but I knew God was calling me to take a step of faith and trust Him with these dreams He has placed on my heart. While these last few months have been some of the most challenging and stretching months in my life, it’s been such a sweet season. I’ve been seeing God open doors I never knew would be possible, and He’s been taking care of us through the unknowns.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I write and record music under my artist name is SioVera, and I also lead worship! I have a few releases in English and Spanish, and I also love to lead worship online through my social pages! Being the daughter of immigrants (my parents were both born and raised in Mexico) has fueled my passion for multicultural worship and bringing together different groups of people to worship together in different languages. There is something so beautiful about worshipping and singing together in different languages. It reminds you of how great God is and how similar we all are as His children. Music is powerful, and with my music, I hope to help lead people to know Jesus and be reminded that they are known and loved! Whether in Spanish, English, or another language, I want my music to be a vessel for this! I want to facilitate moments for people of all different languages and backgrounds to be able to worship in their native tongue. This is why I share music in Spanish and English! Because God is too worthy only to be praised in one tongue!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Joy! I want to spread joy and happiness to a world that often needs it. Whether it’s a simple smile or hello, a funny video on my social pages, or an encouraging verse or note, I want to intentionally spread hope and joy to those around me. 🙂
