Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. LaToya Dudley-Watson.
Hi Dr. LaToya , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Triple Threat Shot Photography was born out of a simple frustration—my iPhone just wasn’t cutting it at my daughter’s sports games. I kept missing those dynamic, fast-paced moments that deserved to be frozen in time. So, I invested in a professional camera and taught myself how to shoot sports action. What began as a personal mission quickly turned into a passion.
As I honed my skills, other parents started asking me to photograph their children—and that’s when the light bulb went off. I realized this could be something more. Photography became a way for me to tell stories, celebrate people, and create images that truly connect.
The meaning and purpose deepened for me during a graduation session, when I photographed a proud husband and wife with their daughter. I later learned those would be their last photos together—he passed away just a few months afterward. That session reminded me that photography isn’t just about capturing faces—it’s about preserving life, love, and moments that can never be repeated.
Today, Triple Threat Shot Photography serves the Clarksville and Nashville areas with everything from sports and portraits to lifestyle and religious settings. What sets us apart is our versatility, we don’t just take pictures, we capture purposefully. Whether I’m courtside at a game or in a quiet studio with a family of five, I bring the same level of care, creativity, and intentionality. My background in leadership and organization helps me run the business with excellence, but my heart is always rooted in storytelling through imagery.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! It’s been anything but a smooth road, but every bump has built resilience.
Starting Triple Threat Shot Photography meant learning everything from scratch. I had to teach myself not just the technical side of photography such as lighting, composition, editing but also how to run a business. That meant marketing, pricing, client communication, taxes the whole nine. I was wearing every hat, and at times, the learning curve was steep.
One of the biggest struggles was self-doubt. There’s a lot of comparison in this industry, especially early on. I had to learn to trust my unique style, lean into what made my work different, and stop worrying about being “as good as” someone else. Once I embraced my own lane, things began to click.
Another challenge was balancing my time. As a mother, professional, and business owner, I’ve had to be really intentional with my schedule especially during busy seasons. There were late nights editing, early mornings on shoots, and moments where I questioned if I could keep up. But I reminded myself why I started: to create meaningful memories for others, just like I wanted for my own family.
Through it all, every challenge pushed me to get better, be more efficient, and grow not just as a photographer, but as a businesswoman and storyteller. Through my faith in God, I knew that through everything that I do to work heartily as for the Lord and not for men (Colossians 3:23).
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Triple Threat Shot Photography, I specialize in capturing stories that matter whether it’s the intensity of a game, the beauty of a portrait, or the joy of a family milestone with a Christ-centered approach.
My core services include sports photography, lifestyle and family sessions, graduation portraits, and branding imagery. I’m known for my versatility and my ability to shift seamlessly between fast-paced, action-heavy environments and calm, intimate portrait settings. Whether I’m courtside or on-location with a client, I approach every shoot with the same mindset: capture purposefully.
What sets me apart is my attention to detail and the emotional depth I bring to each session. I’m not just snapping pictures I’m preserving feelings, moments, and legacies. I help my clients feel comfortable, seen, and celebrated. That connection is what brings their images to life.
One of the things I’m most proud of is being trusted to capture once-in-a-lifetime memories. I am reminded that these are meaningful moments which help to ground me in my mission. It’s not just about the images, it’s about the legacy we leave behind through them. It’s also about showing up and showing love for others through Christ! You never know what someone is going through so I try my best to make my client’s feel comfortable and loved during my sessions.
I take pride in offering not just photography, but an experience, one that’s professional, creative, and deeply personal. And as a Black woman running a business in a competitive space, I’m proud to bring representation, excellence, and authenticity into every frame I create.
What’s next?
I’m incredibly excited about what’s ahead for Triple Threat Shot Photography.
One of my biggest goals is to expand both creatively and operationally. I’m working on developing curated photo packages that cater specifically to seniors, athletes, and small business brands because each group deserves visuals that reflect their unique energy and story.
My goal is to open a dedicated studio space in the near future. While I love working on-location, having a home base will allow me to offer more creative setups, year-round sessions, and a space where clients can truly feel at ease.
Another part of the future I’m passionate about is mentorship. As someone who learned a lot through trial and error, I’d love to help aspiring photographers, especially young women, build confidence behind the lens and in their business. That legacy matters to me.
Long-term, my vision is to grow Triple Threat into a multi-service brand that includes workshops, styled shoots, and visual storytelling for causes and community initiatives. I want to use my gift not just to serve clients, but to create impact.
So yes—big changes are coming in God’s timing, but they’re rooted in the same heart: purpose, excellence, and telling stories that deserve to be remembered.
