Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Jakobsen.
Dylan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Music has always been my passion as far back as I can remember. I remember being in school and thinking that as soon as I graduated high school I was gonna get in a car and travel playing everywhere I could. And that’s exactly what I did. 18 years old me and 4 of my best buddies at the time out on the open road, making music and memories. A decade later and it’s crazy to see where music can take you. Somehow my songs have taken me to multiple countries across the globe and I think we’re at like 45 states in the US now, or something like that. Pretty nuts!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Haha! Definitely not! But I’ll tell you what, it’s those struggles and speed bumps along the way that shape your character. It’s the journey that has given me a narrative and a voice when writing my songs. Along the path of getting your music heard, you encounter not only physical roadblocks but mental and emotional roadblocks that you have to overcome. Just like so many of us during the pandemic era learning how to stay in a good headspace, it’s so crucial to be aware of the world but also let it grow you as a human being and have the ability to see the silver lining in those struggles.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer, songwriter and musician. I’ve released 3 studio albums with the latest being 2021’s “Set Fire to the Night”. I think something I’ve been proud of since my beginnings of making music is the ability to shape a production out of the songs that I write. Ever since I was a kid, making music in my parents’ house, I had a little Tascam portastudio I’d record all my songs on. Start with the acoustic and then stack the rest of the instruments on top of it. It’s something I’ve continued doing to this day, tracking my records out the home studio and then releasing them for the world to hear. I think it’s helped me create a unique sound that defines Dylan Jakobsen.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Since touring was put on hold in 2020 I’ve really been able to get back to what got me started in music in the first place and that is being a fan. Listening to the records that I grew up on and discovering that passion again. The last decade has been so fast paced that I’ve hardly had a chance to stop and reflect and these past 2 years I was given the opportunity to not only ignite that fire again but let it grow bigger than ever before!
