Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Goodin. She and her team share their story with us below:
Emily Goodin is a Wardrobe Stylist and Creative Director based in Nashville, TN. Emily’s career in fashion began when she opened a fashion-forward bridal and formal wear boutique in Chattanooga in 2006. Winning countless accolades as the shop of choice for events, Emily honed her skills styling for everyone from musical artists, to brands, to magazines.
Her store, Boutique Couture, was even mentioned in Sara Evan’s novel, “The Sweet By and By”. After years as a buyer and shop owner, her career in fashion led her to the TV and radio as a Style Watch Reporter! Emily would give style tips and trend reports to listeners on Hits 96 radio based in Chattanooga. On News Channel 9, she had a monthly style segment where she interviewed boutique owners and small businesses and reported on style trends available in the area. In 2015, Emily moved to Nashville to begin styling individual clients full-time.
With a business degree from Tennessee Tech University, Emily’s foundation in business and marketing has allowed her to see her styling as art to personally brand her clients. Her creativity in concept creation and execution has allowed her to span past just wardrobe styling too often acting as creative director and set designer, as well as co-producer on a photoshoot and video projects.
“When I style, I see the whole image before it comes together – color, fit of the clothes, the model’s hair, and makeup, the location, the lighting, the photographer’s angle… all aspects of the shot must be in harmony to execute a concept.”
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It was definitely not a smooth road. From the economic crash in 2008 (just two years after I opened my store) to the introduction of social media in the midst of a divorce which caused me to file for bankruptcy.
I had to fight for my store and then my career. After years of “making it work”, I have come out on top with a thriving styling business with a large client base of individual and commercial clients.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Stylist and Creative Director, I specialize in branding. I consult with my business and personal clients needing to create a brand through their style and image.
My lifelong experience in music and dance, my 17-year career in dressing people and working with seamstresses on fit, my sewing background as a child, and my marketing and business education all collide when I work with a client. I’m able to see the message they want to send and communicate that through their image.
I often come up with the concept, creatively direct the photoshoot or video production and style the client or models, and create the set with props. I know “fit” like the back of my hand and can tell a person’s size by looking at them.
Because of that, I’m able to get the right fit for their body type to make them look their best!
What matters most to you? Why?
The way a client feels after working with me. I hope they walk away with a renewed sense of confidence in their body and their style.
