Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Manning.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have had a career in the arts from the early age of 12 years old, working in Los Angeles as a professional dancer. I’ve danced alongside artists such as Nick Jonas, Sofia Reyes, Jason Derulo, Natalie LaRose, and Jennifer Lopez, and was a featured dancer on the Disney Channel series Shake It Up.
During this time, I also began my career in photography. I started out in portrait photography at the age of 15 working with many dancers, actors, and musicians, and have slowly transitioned into weddings and couples photography which has truly become a passion of mine.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My road to get to where I am now was not always an easy one.
I retired from dance after a car accident in 2017, and soon thereafter found myself in culinary school at The Institute of Culinary Education (ICE). I, then, worked as a food stylist and food photographer, ignoring my passion for wedding and lifestyle photography because of being afraid to take it full time and be my own boss. So as you can see, I have made many different life turns that have led me to the business I’m so proud of. Then our lives really really changed.
After getting married to the love of my life, Kyle, in September of 2019 we traveled to Italy for a month of adventure for our honeymoon. Then, surprise, we got pregnant and had a baby in July 2020 during the midst of a global pandemic, then decided to move to Old Hickory in December of 2020.
After we finally were settled in, I was finally ready to follow my passion and rebranded my business Emma Manning Photography in 2021 here in the beautiful state of Tennessee.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work is centered around love.
Whether that be an engagement session or a wedding, I love to create luxurious experiences for my clients and I love to go above and beyond in my services. I’ve always been a person who thrives on being hospitable. I love to host and take care of others and I believe that I show that to my clients when they book with me.
My background in the arts, being a part of many creative teams, and my extensive dance training really sets me apart from others. I really know and understand movement so I can make anyone feel like their best self in front of the camera. I also think that my willingness to help other photographers sets me apart as well.
There’s plenty of room at the table and I never want my work to feel competitive.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something you may not know about me is I absolutely love traveling in a very non-traditional way.
My husband and I have taken month-long backpacking trips to places like Thailand and Italy. So if you’re a client who wants a session with adventure, I’m your girl!
