Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Bell.
Hi Evan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As an LGBTQ+ Brand owner and Entrepreneur, it’s important to me that young people can see someone like them aspire to achieve their dreams and become the best versions of themselves.
That’s why I started Evan Bell Pro Makeup Artist, to be a standout in the crowd of makeup artists in the Midwest.
You typically have some fierce, amazing, industry-leading female entrepreneurs in the beauty realm doing hair, skin, makeup, and nails, but I wanted to shake things up as a male makeup artist in Indiana.
As someone who is part of the LGBTQ+ community, I am able to further a reach that others may not be able to garner. As a Pro Makeup Artist in Indianapolis, I assist clients from all backgrounds in preparing them for any special occasion. My vision is focused on making someone feel beautiful and confident inside and out through my artistry.
My goal is for my clients to feel and look their best in front of the camera and in real life. Makeup should never feel like a mask and I am constantly innovating my kit to find new ways of reaching that in-real-life glamorous feeling my clients aspire to have when they come to me.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Throughout my journey as a freelance artist to where I am now, I have learned so much through various experiences that have shaped the client experience I provide. Starting out, I did not have the best products in my kit and there were gaps between what I wanted to use and what I needed to be using on my clients.
What I thought should have been in my kit was the opposite of what professionals were suggesting I carry. Fortunately, I have learned so much over the years in terms of stocking my kit, makeup application, and communication with clients.
I am constantly learning how to become a better business person on a client level as well as a vendor level. Oftentimes, colleagues of mine love to network and find new ways to do things which excites me because I am able to learn and grow with the industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I provide makeup applications for a variety of people, occasions, and businesses. Primarily specializing in weddings in the Indiana area, I connect with brides and their wedding parties to create special moments that will last a lifetime for them.
Other areas, I provide makeup applications for include headshots and professional portfolios, personal branding, lifestyle and family photography, and prom. People know me for being inclusive, personable, and professional while also being 100% casual and friendly. It is one of my great pleasures of mine to get to know my clients and provide the best possible experience for them.
One of my proudest moments was meeting my favorite makeup artist, Natasha Denona while attending Sephoria in Los Angeles in 2019. I will never forget handing her my business card and getting my photo with her. Her artistry inspires me to push the limits of what I can do every day.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
As a child, I loved watching The Wizard of Oz and playing school.
It made me feel like I was important and magical. My papaw actually bought me ruby red slippers so I could be just like Dorothy and thinking back on that time helps me realize how unique my perspective is on life.
