Today we’d like to introduce you to Flynn Hendrix
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story starts as an overweight, under-confident kid who fell in love with cartoons, anime, and pro wrestling. Most of these weren’t as popular at that time as they are now; so it wasn’t something you could be open about without being made fun of.
Flash forward to 2002, and all my friends are gearing up to watch WrestleMania x8…the first ever meeting of the Rock and Hulk Hogan. At the time, I wasn’t a fan, but also knew that I didn’t want to be left out if everyone was going to be watching this and talking about it later.
So I ended up watching the pay per view with my long-time friend, Chris Rucker, and from there I was hooked. Not long after that, WWE ended up coming to town for the Judgement Day pay per view, and I was able to go with Chris and my mom, and my addiction only grew from there.
I didn’t know what I needed to do at that time to even begin pursuing this dream, which I wasn’t even sure of, but I did know that I needed to be in better shape – and that’s where I began putting a focus on my physical fitness, which all these years later I’m still doing.
Flash forward to high school and I get connected with WWE Hall of Famer, and family friend, Koko B. Ware in Memphis, TN and realize that there is a way for me to get my foot in the door to live this crazy dream.
Following that meeting, I began saving money and putting a major emphasis on my physical health and appearance, and once I graduated high school, began training in Nashville, with wrestling legend Tony Falk, and his son LT.
People may know Tony as his name is tied to several legends in the wrestling world. Names such as Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, the Rock, Macho Man Randy Savage, and Jerry Lawler to name a few.
Following training with the Falks in 2007, I went on to travel and perform while still maintaining a full-time college and work schedule. This required a lot of gym time, and a lack of sleep – not something I’ll ever recommend.
I maintained a full-time schedule until around 2014, where, after a brief stint with WWE as an extra following WrestleMania XXX, I took a part-time approach so I could focus on starting a family.
I maintained a lighter schedule until around 2019, where I began pursuing acting ahead of the coming Covid-19 Pandemic. As crazy and odd of a time as the Pandemic was, it actually opened up doors to several opportunities I might not have been able to have during normal circumstances.
Opportunities to work with fellow actors and agents globally, while being remote and not in a major hub like New York or Los Angeles was an absolute blessing.
As I began making strides in that world, things began to open up in 2021-2022 and I was pulled back into wrestling. Since that time, I’ve juggled my duties as a husband, father, territory manager, wrestler, actor, and podcast host/content creator. And not always doing the best job of it, but it’s lead me to where I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish I could say it has been a smooth road, but if I did, I’d be lying.
There have always been obstacles, whether it was dealing with bullies in the field, mainly insecure peers in the wrestling world, balancing family life with these endeavors, or the hellacious year that was 2022.
2022 saw what I would call the worst year of my life – losing 2 dogs to cancer, putting another to sleep because he attacked our youngest child and sent us to the ER to repair the damage, my grandfather being diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer (thankfully he’s still going strong now), my mother having open-heart surgery, and 2 job changes.
All of this nearly lead to my wife and I divorcing because we weren’t communicating properly, and while trying to be there for her during all of this, neglecting my feelings and burying myself deeper in work and my entertainment endeavors.
I’m still dealing with some of these effects today, but in a sense, it has helped guide me to this point today where I make it a priority to find the balance instead of overwhelming myself, and becoming a miserable black hole to everyone around me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
For nearly 20 years, I have been an Actor and Professional Wrestler. Since then I have added Content Creator to that list.
I’ve performed across 14 states, worked with WWE, held and retired multiple wrestling championships, including the NWA Mid-America X-Division & NWA TN Jr. Heavyweight Titles, and was the AIWF World Television Champion.
I’ve also been able to work with Amazon multiple times for films and TV shows that are currently in development, and one set to release soon.
I was also a lead actor with the Murder Mystery Co. and had several fight scenes in the 2023 film, Jingle Smells, in which I was able to help choreograph the fight scenes.
I believe there are several things that set me apart – my diverse skillset & resume, my attitude, my adaptability and coachability.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Honesty.
I believe that being true to myself and continuing to evolve while maintaining a level of transparency and integrity has been a huge factor to everything I’ve done.
