Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Mills-Ernest. She shares her story with us below:
Meet HANNAH MILLS-ERNEST, the creator of Miss Daisy’s Boutique. Hannah is a Florida native, but a Tennessee girl (since 2001). As you might have guessed, she’s always had a love for various arts and crafts, especially when it comes to crafting. When she wasn’t hanging out on the family farm, or exploring the woods around her grandparents’ house, she was painting, drawing, or baking.
That interest was reignited in 2016 when Hannah received a candle-making kit from her dad & then decided to make a candle as a wedding gift for a friend. It was a hit! And what started as a simple yet thoughtful one-off has developed into a passion… and an exhilarating project!
When she’s not making quirky and sumptuous candles, Hannah works a day job as a Logistics Manager in Dickson, TN. And when she needs a break from the office and the Boutique, you’ll find Hannah with her husband, Steven, and their 3 doggy companions exploring the nature & rivers of Tennessee or doing yoga with her friends.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My passion for candles was always very clear, but getting to where I am now involved quite a few hurdles! I have had to learn about the event industry alone. However, along the way, I have met some pretty amazing crafters who taught me how to spot the best events and how to build impressive displays.
I started this adventure back in 2016, but 2020 proved to be the hardest year of them all. Not being able to attend events, markets, and stores shutting down, I had to find new ways to get my product out there. Enter my VIP group, doing Facebook LIVE sales and behind-the-scenes videos. I swear social media is the only reason my business survived the pandemic.
My mother and my husband are my advocates, always pushing me to do more and go further! If it wasn’t for them I would not be where I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At MISS DAISY’S ALL NATURAL BOUTIQUE, our passion, and goal is to offer you high-quality, handcrafted candles in fun and creative scents. Our love of playful, joyous, and unique fragrances is also embodied in our body care and pet care products. We promise to always use the finest all-natural ingredients—free of chemicals, dyes, and fillers—so that we can help make your whole life smell perfectly delightful.
Our specialty is making your home smell absolutely divine while still staying true to our natural roots. Miss Daisy’s is known for having the best-smelling, yet all-natural candles here in middle TN. We started with our basic farmhouse line in mason jars and have expanded to fancy candles featuring the use of crystals, herbs, and molded wax shapes!
What sets us apart from other candlemakers is the fact that we stay true to ourselves. We follow the trends of what is popular in the seasons but we are always uniquely ourselves, never copying others or relying on celebrities for inspiration.
Is something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Fun fact number 1: I am a one-woman band! I am the idea lady, the candle maker, the label designer & printer, the social media manager, the photographer, and the shipping department! I do however have my husband who is my muscle, my mother, and my best friend Shayla who both alternate as my assistants at events!
Fun fact number 2: I am an event planner! Hosting the original Full Moon Markets in downtown Dickson, TN. This adventure started when my friend Jenna and I wanted to build a community of like-minded individuals. We created the Crafty Coven group on Facebook, which was the jumping-off point for getting all of the crafters, & healers together for events! When you get all of these people together, the feeling that radiates is just mind-blowing, true comradery.
Fun fact number 3: Every collection of my business is a literal piece of me! The farmhouse collection is based on the family farm I grew up on, with the smells of the kitchen and the garden. I am also a certified yoga instructor, so of course, I had to include the Chakra Collection of candles.
The Elements collection was inspired by my love of astrology and how different elements affect different zodiacs.
Even the Murder & Mayhem collection, which is my Halloween line, was inspired by my love of Halloween, horror films, and thriller books!
