Check Out Imani Beal’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani Beal.

Hi Imani, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.

All my life I’ve always been a very independent person. I started working at the age of 15. I got into makeup at about the age of 16 or 17. 2020, during the pandemic, I decided that I want to take clients and get in to the business world. I know how crazy that sounds I still did it anyways. Of course, during the pandemic, I really didn’t have any clientele. Fall of 2020, I went back to my University in Alabama. I am a senior at Alabama A&M University.

During that semester back from the pandemic, I had lunch with my business. I sold lashes Lipgloss and a lot of other trending jewelry at the time. I’ve had a lot of customers come in. The business was doing really good for me and I decided to step it up a notch.

I started to take makeup a little bit more seriously winter of 2021. I ended up taking my first makeup class because I am a self-taught makeup artist. Once I took that class and enhance my skills, my skills excelled as a makeup artist in my city that I reside in which is Kenosha Wisconsin and also the city that my university is in Huntsville Alabama.

Spring of 2022 this year I decided that I wanted to launch my own cosmetic line now. I currently sell eyeshadow pallets, loose glitter highlighter, Chucky glitter, Lipglosses, lip liners, lash glue, & lashes.

Summer of 2022, I have also taken my first Henna Brow class. Now I am certified in the city of Huntsville Alabama. Now I have three businesses, I am a four-time college senior working the graduate come next year, and I also do about 40 hours a week at work. I have a lot on my plate right now and I know it’s a lot and it seems like a lot, but I do the hustle and I work for it to do what I have to do.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some struggles that I have encountered was being discouraged. Because there is a bunch of makeup artists, and people that sell cosmetics and lashes all around my city and the city that my school is in, but it’s all about how you promote yourself and how are your brands set up.

This past Spring/summer, I wasn’t really getting any business and business started to slow down for me and you know that kinda got under my skin a little bit, but I love what I do so I kept going until I started to see improvements.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a self-taught makeup artist and I am also a Henna Brow tech I also have my own cosmetic line. I really specialize in makeup, I am really known for all of my dramatic glitter glam. Ex. proms or birthdays, but now I’m starting to be known for my Henna Brows.

The biggest thing that I’m proud of is my cosmetic line because I literally created everything from scratch everything is made for my specific brand, everything is customized to my brand and it’s literally shaped around me as a business person in my brand

What were you like growing up?
I was very shy as a child I had plenty of friends but I really talked as much. My interest as a child really revolved around dancing cheering and also a band. I dance and played in a band for about 8 to 9 years I stopped as a junior in high school just because I had a lot going on taking AP and honors classes and I just didn’t have the time.

I didn’t always live the glamorous life that everybody makes it seems that I live but my family also had their struggles while I was growing up. I’ve always told myself that I never want to be in the predicament that my parents had to be put in and that I have to do better and will do better and have to be successful.
