Check Out Jantrice Johnson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jantrice Johnson.

Hi Jantrice, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Jantrice ‘The Homemaker’ Johnson, but not a homemaker in the traditional sense. I believe in redefining what home is through real estate, family, and community. I am a Real Estate Agent with Intero Real Estate Services in Middle TN, mother of two daughters, wife, Director of Rutherford County Back to School Bash, Board Member of Read to Succeed, and CEO of Muka, a virtual community connecting minority homebuyers and sellers to trusted realtors.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge is getting out of my own way. Believing the vision when no one else will believe it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What is your industry, and why did this industry appeal to you? I have been a change-maker in the real estate industry for 8+ years. Not only do I love what I do, but I especially love that I get the opportunity to help people with their life goals. This has always been my purpose in life.

How have you managed the current state of America’s economy?

I’ve managed by continuing to be grateful. I think having a grateful heart for the opportunities that I do have instead of the ones that I don’t has allowed me to thrive in the country’s current state. It is easy to dwell on all the things that are wrong or need to be changed or you can dwell on what I can do to help be a part of the change. I choose to build to be better.

What systems are you putting in place to manage the impact of COVID-19?

We all have had to pivot because of the pandemic. My business relies on the health and happiness of my clients and I believe in putting their safety first. In order to do so, I have made sure that all parties in transactions are comfortable and safety measures are discussed upfront.

How do you market your services or products?

I use all the marketing tools to attract an audience but the main tool I use is by treating people the right way. Treating people with respect is the best marketing tool out there. A lot of doors have been opened for me by just being respectful to all people.

What tools did you put in place to help provide a solution to the challenging times of COVID-19?

My biggest tool has been my mindset. I had to pivot my whole game plan for the last couple of years but it started with changing my focus, mind, and mental health. We all experience roadblocks in life, and things in my business don’t always go according to plan. Daily I work at being not so hard on myself and others. Getting upset will not make the situation any easier, a shift in my mindset helps me to focus on the big picture.

In addition, I started listening to my target market, what they like and want. This has helped me launch a second branch of the MUKA brand, a t-shirt line. Whether you’re a minority homeowner, realtor, or future homeowner, we have something for you! If the shirt fits, wear it and shop Muka (open-black-doors.myshopify.com).

Who was your greatest teacher, or what has been your greatest learning experience while operating a business (especially during COVID)?

My greatest teacher has been my mom. She was the reason why I started MUKA. Her resilience in our business and to be able to shift with each wave is remarkable. Anybody can teach you how to swim but to show you how to keep swimming when life or business waves hit you is a lesson that is unforgettable. It’s a lesson that has helped me stay on top of my game during the time of the pandemic.

In one word or brief phrase, tell a new Young Black Entrepreneur (YBE) what to expect.

Through the fire.

Expect your vision and purpose for your life to go through the fire as all good things must go through the heat. It’s in the heat that you learn your best lessons and develops the tools for you to succeed in whatever business you pursue.
