Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Shore.
Hi Jenny, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina. I am one of four children. My older sister and I have 12 years in between us, so I had the oldest child syndrome growing up. There was little the younger two could do wrong. Though we all four have a great relationship now. Growing up wasn’t the same story. There was abuse in the family, the multigenerational type where no one really knew anything differently other than how to pass it along and keep quiet in fear of ruffling some feathers. I personally experienced sexual abuse from people I was supposed to have trusted. So growing up loving myself wasn’t really a thing I knew how to do or what that truly meant. My view of love was so skewed. As a kid, I experienced more hate than anyone should ever experience. More sadness, more loneliness than anyone should ever experience. I eventually resorted to cutting as a desperate way to get attention. I never really had that safe person that I could go to because to the outside, my family looked normal. It’s taken me 27 years and lots of trial and error in the relationship area to learn who I could and probably shouldn’t trust.
One of many things that has been my main anchor through life has been my faith in God. The one person who has gotten me through the ups and downs. The one person who through it all has helped me to see that what I want most in life is to be that ONE person to someone else that they can come to when they don’t think they can go to anyone else. I want to create a community of safe people around me who shine bright like a beacon. People who have come through on the other side and just want to wrap you in a hug and say, “You’ve got this. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and I want to be there with you as you chase it and reach it.” I recently started a YouTube channel. It’s got a little bit of cooking, crafts, travel. Social media is where the world is going, and my goal is to create a community of followers who reflect what my life’s goal is. I love to cook, make things, and most of all travel. I want to share my experiences in hopes that people can feel like they’re doing it right there with me. Some day I hope to bring followers on trips with me. And get to know them in person. The future is bright. But also the future is now. I’m learning to grab it one day at a time and become the person I want to be now.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road has been far from smooth. But every obstacle, every challenge, every bump in the road has made me who I am now. Someone who cares and has a heart for others.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently, I am a server at Puckett’s who has a hunger for people. I love my job because it forces me to get out of my comfort zone and meet new people. People from literally all over! It’s said that food brings people together, and that is so true! I love my job for many reasons. One of which is: I get to meet people from ALL walks of life, whether a full-time stay at home mom or huge real estate gurus. Hearing each of their stories and what makes them, them is my favorite. Making connections. Looking past “class” and connecting on the common fact that we are all human, walking through this thing called life together. That is the coolest part of my job! Eventually, I want to travel more, meeting more people on the road. Meeting people I’ve been able to connect with on social media who have been following me. Putting a name to a real live face!
What matters most to you? Why?
I’d say the top things that matter most to me are my faith in God. He’s literally the only reason I am where I am today! My family matters a lot, we have been each others go to’s through a lot in life. Whether bouncing ideas off each other or a shoulder to cry on. And the third thing that matters a lot to me is to become the type of person I want in my life. Someone who cares about others will cross oceans for a friend. And as my mom would say, treats people like appointments, NOT interruptions.
