Check Out Jesse Sunga’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Sunga.

Hi Jesse, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello! Yes! I started playing guitar when I was 10 years old and mostly played at home with family until I performed on stage for the first time at 24. It’s been a decade since then, and I still get excited every time I have the chance to play live. I definitely plan to keep playing for many years to come.
Music has given me countless opportunities to travel and make great friends along the way. Currently, I play with my own band, The Jesse Sunga Band, as well as She Returns from War and Penny and the Dimes. My goal on this journey is to support original music any way I can. The best way to keep up with my shows is through my social media accounts!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road! If you’re in the music industry, you need thick skin. For every “yes,” there are usually 10 “no”s that come before it. And that includes trying to get gigs, studio work, or even finding musicians to play with. What I’ve learned quickly is to keep your head down and keep on going.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I think a lot of people notice me for my slide guitar playing. It was a new technique that I became obsessed with a decade ago and still am. It provides a different sound from regular guitar playing and adds another layer to a song. The little glass corcidin bottle I use has certainly changed my life.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Best way to catch me is in person or on any of my social media accounts. Don’t be shy to send me a message!
