Check Out Jo Tyler’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jo Tyler.

Hi Jo, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My full name is Joseph Tyler McKinney. I was born on August 28th, 1996 at the Baptist hospital in Nashville, TN, and I was raised in Robertson County, Tennessee.

I have always been interested in music since I was 11. Wrote my first song at 13 and my mom had a friend named Johnny that was a DJ I played with the turn tables on a Nas instrumental and started freestyling and Johnny said I had a talent and to start taking it more seriously.

So I did. Even though the kids at school laughing and joking about it, I continued. Later, I found myself at showcases and started winning opening slots. I got to open for Trina, Lil Wyte, and a few others. As I got older the music kind of got away and I started getting in trouble and partying more. Then got into a relationship, and she got pregnant. A year passed by found out the kid wasn’t mine.

We then split and I ran into Chase Matthew. We became closer friends and he inspired me to get back to recording. He helped me get my first song Tri-Star Outlaw recorded. When I released it, I gained a nice little fan base and started taking it more seriously, and pushed to write more.

I got to help write Can’t Buy Time with Chase, which was an awesome experience. I also got to meet some great people along the way such as Ryan Upchurch, BManleyMadeIt, Dusty Leigh, and more. I love what I do and can’t wait to give you guys more.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Unfortunately, it has not been a smooth road. It gets rough working 40 hours plus trying to take on my music career. Even rougher with prices of everything rising but not the wages and it cost a pretty penny to push even one song.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an independent music artist. I write about my life or things I can relate to in my life. I take a lot of pride in each song I put out. I know a lot of people can relate to things I say and just want everyone to have positive energy.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Always think about your decisions very wisely.
