Check Out John Pyka’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Pyka. 

Hi John, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a multi-discipline storyologist: Published Author, Comic Artist, Podcaster, Paranormal Storyteller, Singer, Champion Magician, and Harley Quinn Cosplayer! I share fun and amazing adventures with the world, one audience at a time, one story at a time! My work is focused primarily around geek culture; Star Wars Movies and Avengers Comic Books made me who I am today, and still inform everything I do! 

I am married with two amazing grown kids and a little chihuahua named Handsome Jax who is my best bud! 

I’ve been addicted to storytelling since I was a kid; I learned that there is power in stories told through characters, and music, and magic, and I found my calling. Literally, stories saved my life, and then helped me impact the lives of others. 

My mission is to help others escape the toxicity and negativity in their lives through the power of stories; to make people laugh, cry and sit on the edge of their seats and leave their troubles behind, even if only for an hour. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an entrepreneur is never easy. It has its ups and downs. I’ve produced my original shows to sold-out theaters in New York, entertained celebrities in Las Vegas and House of Cards in Nashville, and I’ve performed to empty rooms. The thing that keeps me going is knowing that there is someone in the audience who needs to hear me and that my stories can impact their lives! 

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a storyologist specializing in geek pop culture. I am a lifelong comic reader and collector, a Star Wars “freakasaurus”, Pro Wrestling fan, and Movie fanatic. Star Wars movies and Avengers comics made me who I am today and my audiences have dubbed me the “Prophet of Pop Culture!” Whether I am writing, drawing, or blending swing music with magic, I am inspired by the nostalgia of comics and cartoons and the larger-than-life characters of pro wrestling! And I wrap all of my work in the aesthetics of “Dieselpunk,” a visual media that fuses the styles and aesthetics of the 1920s – 1950s with science fiction and fantasy; and for me, it’s all wrapped in bright Crayola colors! 

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, was on the high school wrestling team, a Golden Gloves boxer, and was a competitive kickboxer.
