Check Out Joshua Neely’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Neely.

Hi Joshua, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into visual storytelling started with photography back in 2019, but I’ve always had a strong passion for videography and the ability to bring moments to life through motion and storytelling. What began as learning photography and creating content gradually evolved into a deeper love for cinematic visuals and capturing real experiences that people can relive forever.

As time went on, I dedicated myself to learning every aspect of the craft — from shooting and lighting to editing and cinematic storytelling. I spent countless hours refining my skills, investing into professional equipment, and developing my own creative style. Peter Mckinnon was a big influence early. I loved his style of photography but his video work was top tier! As my experience grew, so did the opportunities to work on events, creative projects, and branded content that helped me grow both technically and professionally.

Today, through SANN Productions, I focus on delivering high-quality cinematic visuals that not only capture moments, but create an experience. Whether it’s events, lifestyle content, or promotional work, my goal is always to bring professionalism, creativity, and authenticity to every project I take on. I’m still growing, still learning, and continuing to push myself creatively with every opportunity that comes my way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most business owners, there were a lot of challenges that came with building something from the ground up. In the beginning, one of the biggest struggles was simply getting my name out there and earning people’s trust. When you’re first starting, you have to prove yourself constantly while also balancing the financial side of investing into equipment, software, travel, and continuing to improve your craft. So with that I’ve done a lot of work for free. simply to work on improving my craft but also building up my portfolio along the way.

Another challenge was learning how to manage both the creative and business sides at the same time. A lot of people see the final videos, but behind the scenes there’s client communication, scheduling, editing deadlines, marketing, networking, and maintaining professionalism through every project. There were definitely moments where I had to learn through trial and error.

As the business grew, I also realized the importance of consistency, reputation, and adapting. Every project taught me something new — whether it was improving customer experience, refining my workflow, or pushing myself creatively. Even through the difficult moments, those experiences helped shape both me and SANN Productions into what it is today.
I think the biggest thing I’ve learned is that success in business isn’t really about avoiding struggles — it’s about staying committed through them, continuing to grow, and always finding ways to improve.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At SANN Productions, I specialize in both photography and videography with a strong focus on creating cinematic, visually impactful work that feels timeless and emotionally driven. My overall style is bold, clean, and rich in color — I love creating images and films where the colors pop, the shadows have depth, and every frame feels intentional.

With photography, I’m especially known for my flash photography, sunset sessions, headshots, and studio work. I enjoy creating portraits that feel polished but still authentic to the person in front of the camera. Sunset sessions are probably my favorite because of the natural atmosphere and emotion they create, while studio and headshot sessions allow me to really focus on lighting, detail, and bringing out confidence in people.

On the videography side, I specialize primarily in wedding filmmaking. What I enjoy most about weddings is being able to tell a story — not just documenting the day, but building a beautiful highlight film that captures the emotions, energy, and love shared between each couple. I take pride in creating films that allow people to relive one of the most important moments of their lives in a cinematic and meaningful way.

What sets me apart is my attention to detail and my ability to combine strong visuals with storytelling. I don’t just want my work to look good — I want it to feel something. I’m very intentional about lighting, color grading, composition, pacing, and emotion in every project I create. I also pride myself on professionalism, consistency, and always pushing myself creatively to elevate the experience for every client.

What I’m most proud of is seeing how my work impacts people. Whether it’s a couple watching their wedding film for the first time or a client gaining confidence from a portrait session, knowing that I created something meaningful and lasting is what drives me the most.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe one of the biggest qualities that has contributed to my success is my energy and ambition. I naturally bring a high level of passion and drive into everything I do, and I think that translates into both my work and the experience clients have working with me. I’m always pushing myself to improve creatively, professionally, and personally.

I’d also say my attention to detail plays a huge role. Whether it’s photography, filmmaking, client communication, or editing, I’m very intentional about making sure every detail is polished and every project feels complete. I think people notice when someone genuinely cares about the little things.

Another important factor is my interpersonal and diplomatic nature. Being in a creative industry means you’re constantly working with different personalities, emotions, and environments. I’ve learned how important it is to connect with people, communicate effectively, and create an atmosphere where clients feel comfortable and understood. I also try to bring a sense of humor and authenticity into my interactions because I think great experiences come from genuine human connection.

Overall, I think the combination of ambition, creativity, professionalism, and the ability to connect with people has been one of the biggest reasons I’ve been able to continue growing both personally and professionally.
