Today we’d like to introduce you to Justine DiVanna.
Hi Justine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in New Jersey, I started my beauty career back in high school. I graduated from Vocational school in 2009 earning my Cosmetology License, where I headed to LA to take advanced hair training at Vidal Sassoon Academy. In 2011 I attended Make-Up Designory which then kick-started my career in NYC. There I had the opportunity to build my portfolio working with celebrities like Snooki & Deena, Shontelle, Jenny McCarthy, & Eric Roberts to name a few. I’ve worked with major companies & networks such as Forbes Magazine, Life & Style Weekly, MTV, BET, TLC, Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, Univision, & Good Housekeeping Magazine.
In 2014 I decided to make the big move to LA, continuing my lifelong passion for the beauty industry. Once I got there, it took my career in a whole new direction. The first month I got there, my friend Stephen who was supposed to be interviewing celebrities on the Hair & Makeup Guild Awards red carpet got stuck in a snowstorm on the east coast and asked me to fill in for him last minute. It was genuinely the most exciting night of my life and is what expanded my passion for TV/Red Carpet hosting. I’ve interviewed celebrities like Ryan Gosling, Tyra Banks, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mariah Carrey, Heidi Klum, Simon Cowell, and many more.
Fast forward 8 years and I’m now thriving in Nashville running my own business doing permanent makeup, content creating, and beauty segments for Nashville Channel 5. A lot of people ask me why I made the move to Nashville and honestly, Hollywood is a very toxic place that genuinely drains the life out of you. The entertainment industry is definitely not what I dreamt it would be, and it was time for a change. Not only was my entire family moving to Nashville, but I also had so many business opportunities coming my way. It was the best decision I’ve ever made!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. It may look like it’s been an easy and effortless journey, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I have been working hard for 13 years to build the business and career that I have today. It honestly feels impossible when you’re first starting because you have absolutely no idea where to even begin. I grew up with a single mother raising my sister and me.
We didn’t have a lot of money, but fortunately, I was able to get approved for a student loan to attend Vidal Sassoon Academy and Make-Up Designory. After graduating, I had to hustle hard to get freelance gigs which every freelancer understands is extremely difficult and stressful at times.
There have been plenty of times that I wasn’t hired for a job, and so many times that I’ve heard no. Instead of letting it break me down and not feel good enough, I used it to motivate me and become who I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a licensed Cosmetologist and Celebrity Makeup Artist that specializes in Permanent Makeup services like Nano Brows, Lash Lifts & Tints, Lip Blushing, Brow Lamination, and Makeup Applications.
Making the everyday women feel like a star! I am also a content creator sharing beauty short video content across my social media platforms reaching over 250k followers, along with being a beauty correspondent for Nashville Channel 5.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have so many people in my life that deserve credit for helping me get to where I am today, but I will just name a few. First my mom Noreen. Without her constant love and support throughout my entire life, I genuinely don’t think I would be where I’m at. I also want to thank my sister and all of my family and friends who have always believed in me!
I also owe so much credit to Stephen Marinaro AKA TheSalonGuy. When I first moved to LA, Stephen gave me the opportunity of a lifetime, to interview celebrities on the Hair & Makeup Guide Awards red carpet. He is the main reason I have a career in TV Hosting today.
Another person I owe credit to is my dear friend Andria Shultz. Andria started mentoring me and helped grow my social media to what it is today. She has an incredible program called “Actors Brand Academy” where she helps young professionals break into the entertainment industry.
The last two people I want to thank are my Uncle Sean, and friend/publicist Kandace Caine. They both helped me so much in my social media journey when I first started gaining attraction, and I will forever be grateful for their love and support.
