Check Out Kevin Randolph’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Randolph.

Hi Kevin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started years ago. I was listening to Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers sing islands in the steam. It was on a transistor radio at my mamaw and papaws house. This was the 1st song I”d ever sang. I told my grandparents that “one day I was gonna sing with Dolly”. They just smiled really big and had no idea how serious that little boy was.! Saturday nights we tuned in and listened to the Grand Ole Opry. Those were the best days of my life. I’ve been singing and writing ever since. Fast forward to a few years ago, I wrote a song called “Just Outside of Knoxville”. I wrote it for my dad who was terminal. He’d always tell me “I”ll always be just outside of Knoxville”. It was a huge help and comfort to me when he passed away. The song recently charted to number 7 on the Cashbox Magazine top 100 for independent Country Music. (February 2025) Music has always been a big part of my life and has helped me through some of the hardest times in my life. I’ve based my hard work ethic on the amazing example that Dolly has led by. When Carl passed away a few months ago, I know it devastated her tremendously. That’s when I knew i had to take action! Me and Dolly both grew up in East Tennessee. I kept thinking, I know Carl will always be Just outside of Knoxville. That’s when I took my original song and came up with a remix called “The Ballad of Carl Dean”. It’s a Message from Heaven to Dolly. This song takes us back to the Wishy Washy laundromat where it all started. The original song was great but it was missing something. I believe it needed Carls Heart to bring the song full circle. It’s an honor to tell a true American love story from Carls perspective. His voice deserves to be heard. The message from Heaven is Dolly, I’ll always be just outside of Knoxville. Love Carl!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The group I worked with was awesome and worked tirelessly to bring this project to life. I was able to add a personal touch to the song by having a Kayla Parton (cousin) add background vocals. She did a great job.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer, songwriter, producer and I specialize in country music. I tend to push myself hard to perfect my craft and enjoy all aspects of the creative process. I enjoy working with those that aren’t afraid to take chances and open new doors. I’m very old fashioned and I believe that God has a plan for us all.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I enjoy learning from seasoned professionals that have tons of experience. Experience is the best teacher.I believe that collaboration is a great way to expand on good ideas and make them great ones. My goal is to learn something new about music every day.
