Today we’d like to introduce you to Kia Taylor.
Hi Kia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’m Kia “K Taylor” born and raised right here in Nashville. For as long as I can remember I have loved hair. My mother will say she knew I would always do something in the hair and beauty industry.
I trained under some of the best and most talented cosmetologists right on Jefferson Street downtown. I took cosmetology in high school at white’s Creek High School. I was licensed in 1998 and opened Eden Salon in East Nashville in 2002 with the help of my mother. I rebranded the salon as a hair extension and natural haircare salon with my brand K Taylor in 2017.
I have been a platform hair educator at hair shows taught haircare classes worked backstage at video shoot award shows etc. In 2018, I created MADE “Make a Dramatic Entrance” my natural haircare product line for textured hair. My product and salon were recently featured on Nashville’s News Channel 5 Talk of the Town.
I believe I got to where I am today because I love to service and take care of women. My personal goal to help every woman I can is my driving force every day. Whether it be through mentorship in business, life, hair care, skin care, mental, emotional, spiritual, or financial I want to offer a way to improve their life.
I love to make them feel appreciated and relaxed in chairs and let them have a safe place to talk and heal. I LOVE what I do it is who I am and I feel privileged to get to share my gift with women every day.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Getting here was in no way smooth. I became a teen mom in high school and have been both a single mom wife and divorced. I am a domestic violence survivor and cancer survivor. I have 3 boys who are 18 24 26 raising them and learning to balance a business and career have been nothing short of a miracle.
In every struggle, I learned to choose myself first and make sure I was at 100 percent to be the superwoman to my boys and others. My favorite survivor motto is the airplane instruction when they tell you to “put your mask on first” and then help others and I say this a lot in mentoring other women. I don’t let my rough times count as failures but as lessons and stepping stones to my story.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a personal image creator for women. I provide tailored professional hair services for women according to their image goals, lifestyle, and preferences. I specialize in textured hair care, hair extensions, and women with hair loss issues. I am known for my ability to guide women in finding a personalized style that works with the life they live and give step-by-step guides to get to their image goals.
I also mentor service business professionals on how to make their service-based businesses profitable. I designed a natural haircare line for textured hair called MADE to provide solutions to natural hair care issues by going to the root of the problem which is the first step in haircare correcting the shampoo conditioning process. I have been a successful salon owner for 21 years and a professional cosmetologist for 25 years, I am most proud of the stylist and other service professionals I help to achieve the goals of being successful entrepreneurs.
What sets me apart from others is my commitment to the client’s service experience and commitment to show other service pros how to build a brand they love that helps its clients and makes money. Love what you do and the service you provide.
What matters most to you?
Every woman I touch or who comes in contact with me or my salon or staff has to feel cared for and that they have been provided with the highest quality of service and attention that we or I can give. I want to touch women’s lives in a way that gives them confidence and empowers them to help other women they encounter. Hair stylist provides so many services besides just hair listening and providing peace which is an important part of the experience.
My why is because I have to. I have been through learned and experienced so much and I stand so tall and strong because my mother provided the way for me, she is the strongest woman I know. I cannot have so much and be so blessed and not share and give back to others I wake up ready to water another grass (life). I prepared my table (life) to invite others to sit with me eat learn and then share with others. I am nothing without the people I can help.
