Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Dawn.
Hi Kimberly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up singing in church and jumped right into the music business about 15 years ago. For the last eight years, I have gone hard for my music in the industry. I am primarily a country music artist. My ambition is to continue to grow my music catalog, keep performing and most especially I want to use my music as a vehicle to inspire and help others.
I am a proud ambassador of NAMI and this year I will be working with their team and performing and helping others. I am currently writing my new country album with Mega Producer Kent Wells. I will be releasing singles this year and also participating in several songwriting festivals. I am also planning an all female tour.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been some windy roads and potholes. I think the thing that I personally have struggled with until recently is that many artists live with imposter syndrome. This is a daily struggle that I have to work though this and work on my confidence.
I am living my dream and some days I just question myself, is this really happening? I have built up a strong music centered support system and I absolutely would ride through every hole in the ground all over again, to experience the positive aspects of my career. I love my fans, I have earned recognition in the press, and I am always excited to keep going!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
First and foremost, I am a Coastal Country girl who loves the process of songwriting. Bringing the songs to life in the studio is the icing on the cake. Working with esteemed and legendary producers and engineers in the music industry is literally a real life dream come true. I am a very positive person and I try to spread positivity to others on a daily basis.
My publicist calls me “Little Miss Sunshine”. Dolly Parton is the perfect role model for me. I am most proud of my perserverence, many days I can’t believe I am still continuing to chase this dream for myself. As a mother I am proud that I raised my children and was able to show my children that I can be a present Mom, songwriter and an artist while still chasing my passion. I have seen many people give up on their music careers, and I am also proud that I don’t give up.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Two years ago I received a phone call from legendary singer- songwriter Paul Anka. He called me to tell me he was doing another album and he had a song that he thought I would be perfect for. Mr Anka sent over the song. I ended up recording the song in 2021 and the song was released in the summer of 2022. The song is called Do I Love You (You Should Know By Now) I found out soon after the song was released that Dolly Parton had done the same song and duet with Mr Anka back in 2013. Life is full of surprises.
