Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristi Curling.
Hi Kristi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I am a Loan Originator, NMLS #2156237 with Peoples Home Equity, a DBA of Cardinal Financial Company, Limited Partnership NMLS 66247, an Equal Housing Opportunity lender. I am living my dream of helping people with homeownership, mortgages, debt consolidation, and navigating what could happen to the family home in a divorce situation. I provide information to borrowers regarding financing, refinancing, and budgeting for their homes, real estate partners, family law professionals, mediators, as well as debt-consolidation options for borrowers and/or those going through a divorce. I love helping clients find the right mortgage fit for their needs. I listen and provide guidance to my clients in all things mortgage-related. I help business partners and affiliates grow their business by working collaboratively to grow our shared network of clients who will also provide excellent customer service to our existing clients.
I am a native Texan, I grew up in Houston, and graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Psychology. After graduation, I moved to Dallas. I chose Psychology as my major because I have always had a passion for helping others.
I grew a love for sales (helping people discover the products that might help them most) at jobs.com, this was back in the day of the .com boom. It was a fun time at a startup company. After two years at jobs.com, my two awesome sons were born. As the boys grew older, I decided to teach at their preschool. I loved being able to see them grow up. When the boys were around 3 and 5 years old, we packed them up and moved them to a grand adventure of living abroad in London, England. We lived in the UK for four years.
It was quite an adjustment but it was such a wonderful experience. We were able to see so much of the world with the UK as our home base. Yes, I learned to drive on the “wrong side” of the road and I still have my UK license. When my youngest son started to say things like “Mummy won’t you get me some tea”, we decided it was time to trade in tea time for bbq and Tex Mex. We moved back to our roots in Texas. Shortly after being back in Texas, we decided that we needed a new adventure, so we packed up and moved to Nashville! Out of all the places that I have lived, Nashville feels most like home.
I love it here! Both my boys are now students at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville – Go Big Orange! I am now a proud mom/empty nester.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been an easy road. My path to finding my career passion has taken me in many different directions. I taught preschool for a very long time. After I went through a divorce (from a 20-year marriage) and both my sons graduated from college, I knew I wanted a change. I just wasn’t sure what I was looking for BUT I knew that it would feel “just right” when I found it.
I worked at a luxury travel exchange company for a while, which was very interesting. Then I moved on to become an Assistant Director at a preschool. Exhausted, I began a job search for something new. At the very right moment, Peoples Home Equity came into my life. In the interview, I knew it was the right place for me! The interviewer, now my boss, said, “Do you want to learn a new business?” to which I eagerly replied, “Yes!” From that point on, I never looked back and never stopped learning.
Working at Peoples Home Equity is such a pleasure, it is such a great group of just good people, with such strong work ethics. It is a really positive place to work! My personal life took an exciting turn as well. After the divorce, I met a handsome, interesting, hilarious guy from Boston, with which I had tons in common. Since he lived so far from Nashville, I thought we should just be friends. I mean who can do a long-distance thing from Boston to Nashville? Ha, well I was wrong.
That friendship quickly turned into a strong love. After going back and forth for visits for a little over a year, my now fiancé decided to make the leap and move to Nashville so that we could be together in October of 2020. We are so happy to have found each other. I am so thankful for new beginnings!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Loan Originator at Peoples Home Equity. I am so thankful to have a job that does not feel like work at all. I love helping people. In my role as Loan Originator, I help people find the right mortgage fit for their needs, whether it is a purchase or a refinance.
My specialty is helping people navigate through the mortgage/housing portion of their divorce. Being a divorcee myself, I know how overwhelming and difficult the whole process can be, I wanted to find a way to help others going through what I went through. When I was going through my divorce, refinancing the family home into my name was never an option. I feel that was a lost opportunity and I would have been better served to do so.
With that being said, it has become my passion based on my own experience, to provide what I know to try to help individuals get the housing portion of their divorce settled equally and fairly. The thing that sets me apart from others is my strong desire to help others, I truly put my clients first. My clients know that I will always be 100% upfront with them, I treat each transaction as if it were my own.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I strive to help borrowers with pre-approvals for loans prior to shopping for their home, debt consolidation, and those looking to refinance or purchase a home during and after the divorce process. I also collaborate with others such as real estate agents, financial planners, family law professionals, and mediators.
