Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyelani Sayers.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My life has been a beautiful journey. I overcame many challenges personally from being homeless at fifteen to achieving many wins in activism, bussiness, community, and industry. I am transgender and have helped fight Tennessees unjust laws with my bussinesses. Im a makeup professional makeup artist, brand trainer, and passionate events bussiness owner. I M the founder of Southern America Newcomer and do everything I can to uplift my community and anyone oppressed. I belive in kindness, passion, and community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I was one of many children. I was left with my grandparents at two who passed when I was 15. I was homeless. I made it to college by scholarships and essays. I built my career and bussinesses from the bottom up. Ive fought state laws and radical political oppressors and won. I have bee able to host over 500 inclusive community events in the face of hate and backlash.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a sales and education artist for tarte cosmetics and brand trainer for amika clean haircare. I teach others makeup technique and how to use cosmetics and products to get the results they need. I travel all over Tennessee in Ulta, Sephora, Cosmoprof, and department stores to train, educate, and share love for all things beauty. I create and deliver brand trainings. I also own Wicked Events and southern america pageantry. A southern drag pageant community fundraiser for new and aspiring entertainers in Tennessee that benefits various community causes and non profits
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is a measure of resilience, grit, and preparedness. It means never letting failure stop you from looking for that next moment of success. Its never too late to make your next best choice.
