Check Out Kyla Jade’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyla Jade.

Hi Kyla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in music started in church, where I developed my voice and passion for performing at a very young age. Gospel and soul music became the foundation of everything I do, and that passion eventually led me into a professional career in television and touring. I began my television career as a featured vocalist on Bobby Jones Gospel on BET, where I appeared for many years and gained invaluable experience performing for national audiences.

From there, I built a career as a touring background vocalist, arranger, and live performer, working with an incredible range of artists across multiple genres. I’ve had the honor of performing alongside legendary artists, including Patti LaBelle, Wynonna Judd, and Jennifer Hudson, among many others, throughout my career. Those experiences taught me professionalism, versatility, and how powerful music can be when it truly connects with people on an emotional level.

Many people were introduced to me nationally during my time as a finalist on N.B.C’s The Voice, which became another major turning point in my journey and allowed me to share my story and artistry on a larger platform.

Today, I continue to perform as a recording artist, live entertainer, and creative storyteller. I’m also proud to star as Evillene in the 50th Anniversary Broadway tour of The Wiz, which has been an incredible full-circle moment in my career. Whether I’m performing on stage, creating live concert experiences, or collaborating with other artists, my goal is always the same — to move people through authenticity, soul, and music that makes them feel something real.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, but I think every challenge has shaped me into the artist and woman I am today. The entertainment industry can be unpredictable, and one of the biggest struggles has been learning how to navigate seasons of uncertainty while still believing in my gift. There were moments where I was pouring into other artists’ careers as a background vocalist while contracting and curating experiences around Nashville; while still trying to figure out what was next for me.

Another challenge has been balancing the emotional, physical, and mental demands of performing at a high level. Touring, television, theater, and live performances all require a tremendous amount of discipline and sacrifice behind the scenes that people don’t always see. There were times when opportunities didn’t come as quickly as I hoped, or doors closed unexpectedly, but I learned that resilience and consistency matter just as much as talent.

At the same time, those struggles taught me patience, humility, and perseverance. They also deepened my connection to music because I learned how to sing from a real place of life experience. Every stage of the journey from church to background vocals to television to Broadway has prepared me for the next chapter, and I’m grateful for all of it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I really specialize in is cultivating elevated live music experiences that feel intentional, emotional, and immersive. A huge part of my work happens behind the scenes as a creative contractor for major artists, award shows, live productions, and special events. I’ve spent years helping shape performances, build musical moments, and bring large-scale productions to life while also producing and developing artists of my own.

I’m especially proud of the experiences I’ve created through my live music series and productions. My annual *Christmas with Kyla* at City Winery Nashville is a deeply personal project that has become known as an elevated musical experience that takes audiences on an emotional journey through storytelling, soul, nostalgia, and live musicianship. I also created the *Reimagined Series* at 3rd & Lindsley, which highlights and celebrates Nashville’s incredible local talent through unique collaborations and fresh musical interpretations.

I’m also proud to serve as the only African American woman board member for SAG-AFTRA over the last three years. Being able to advocate for artists, representation, and equity within the entertainment industry is something I value deeply.

What sets me apart most is my ability to connect people, talent, and ideas in a way that feels organic and impactful. My work colleagues affectionately call me “The Plug” because I naturally bring creatives together and create opportunities and experiences that leave a lasting impression. My strength is not just performance, it’s vision, curation, and knowing how to create moments people truly feel and remember.

What does success mean to you?
Happiness, fulfillment, freedom, authenticity, and meaningful impact
