Today we’d like to introduce you to Ladia Yates.
Hi Ladia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
In 2016 I moved to Memphis TN. From California due to my grandmother’s job relocation. In 2018, I began my career in dance when I signed up for uDig dance academy also located in Memphis, TN.
We started off performing on big stages such as BET’S 106 & park, featured in Janelle Monae’s music video, and many local shows! It pretty much all began there.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. Being a female in a male-dominated sport has its challenges such as RESPECT. It’s hard for a woman to gain respect more than anything.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a professional dancer, choreographer, dance studio owner, & dance team coach.
I specialize in a dance style called Memphis Jookin, I am most proud of what my company has accomplished being that we’re from a small town these opportunities don’t happen often and that’s what sets us apart from the others.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
