Check Out Liv Jummati’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liv Jummati.

Hi Liv, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi! I’m Liv, and I’m the owner of Curl Coven, which is a salon specializing in wavy, curly, and coily hair.

I never intended to be a business owner, however, specializing in curly hair made me realize it was the best option for me and my clients.

Curly clients have historically had bad and even traumatic experiences in salons- and I wanted to be able to create an environment where I could ensure that my clients not only feel safe but can also relax and enjoy themselves. I started off in a small salon suite in the Nippers Corner area about two weeks before salons were shutdown due to Covid-19, and have since brought on an employee and have expanded twice.

Our most recent move brought us to a beautiful space on Music Row!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been smooth, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. The one struggle I will never forget is how excited I was to open, and how devastated I was to be forced to close two weeks later due to the pandemic.

I was closed for nine weeks and was absolutely terrified. I had just become self-employed for the first time ever, and put my entire savings into opening my business. I’m so grateful to have not only made it through that but to have grown exponentially as well.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a curly hair specialist and offer cutting, color, and styling services on wavy, curly, and coily hair. I’m most proud of how I’ve been able to not only grow my business in a way I never expected to but have been able to build a community that is full of amazing, diverse, wonderful people. I think what sets Curl Coven apart is that we focus on ensuring our clients are set up for success at home.

We spend most of our time during appointments educating our clients on home care routines and go above and beyond to make sure it is achievable and realistic for their lifestyles. It’s one thing for our clients to feel amazing when they leave our salon, but our goal is to help them feel that way when they style their own hair at home.

How do you think about happiness?
My happiness comes from connecting with other people. It’s definitely something that I didn’t realize how much I needed until my salon was closed for nine weeks. I am so grateful to be in a career that has allowed me to be around people for the majority of the pandemic. I love being able to work with so many different people on a regular basis- I feel like I’ve been able to learn so much about so many topics from being a stylist.
